You are asking for something that can’t be given. Every bow is different.

Well said 😯
If you shoot a 350 grain arrow out of a hundred pound bow, you are essentially dry firing the bow. Nothing to learn from that exercise.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #52057Nice! So did you follow Big Jim’s method? Did you use his glass/carbon wrap?
I’ve been thinking about trying it with the fiberglass wrap available at Lowes or Home Depot for like ten bucks.
Nice job!
in reply to: Longbow speed #41242Sompin’ ain’ right…. Either you are shooting a bow that pulls eighty some pounds, or your crono was off.
Lets assume you are pulling eighty some pounds, then you have no business shooting a 350 grain arrow out of it. Shooting such a light arrow out of a heavy bow will damage it.
Additionally, a bow can shoot only so fast, no matter how light or heavy the arrow. If the arrow you are shooting is shooting well, it is a sure killer. One hundred and eighty feet per second is nothing to sneeze at. And throwing all that mass it will go through anything.

Some years ago I used a blade of similar design and had exact same experience and response.

in reply to: Mountain Cuisine? #62482I’ve only done a couple hunts that required freeze dried food. But I have to say that I thought it was pretty tasty.
I expect that when you are in the process of toting that heavy back pack through the thin air and starting to get hungry, you might not have the same opinion of the freeze dried food that you have now. My opinion is that they are easy, safe, light, simple to prepare, and FULL of calories. Yea baby. I’ll pay for that 😯
The real challenge is water.
Get one of those filter water bottles that you can fill up with muck from an elk wallow and suck out cool clear water. Best thing ever. And you need a pump style filter too for cooking and whatnot.

When you say handmade, does that mean you doweled the shafts yourself? If so, where did you get the wood?
in reply to: Just my take #51694The ethics of driving all over the desert leaving a trail of destruction behind you – questionable at best.
The ethics of shooting rabbit ears off – not questionable, just bad.
But that was then, and this is now. So I don’t hold it against the boys. In fact, I sure would like to have been on a few of those adventures!
But knowing you, that’s probably not what you were talking about. Is it Ralph. I get all twisted up in your words and fall down 😳 🙄
in reply to: Just my take #39893I just read an interesting recollection about going jack rabbit hunting with the Wilhelm brothers in their desert mobile. They hunted jack rabbits like we hunt carp, by standing on a platform and driving along.
Anyway, I guess they got tired of killing jack rabbits, so they just shot them in the ear. Not bad eh? Shooting I mean, ethics aside. Running rabbit from a moving vehicle.
in reply to: Longbow speed #39812those are some good numbers! A longbow with a 10 inch brace height? Sounds strange to me. That Draw force curve looks like a recurve curve to me.
Those hybrids sure look good on paper don’t they? Fast bows and fast women, every time I go chasen’ after one, I get slapped 😳

I’ve watched Big Jim’s video on making the sleeve. Thought about trying it myself. Take some pictures as you go in case you want to share. Sure would like to hear how it goes….
