So being somewhat goofy, I didn’t get the part about all the signs… Are all those companies really located out there, or was that a sponsor add thing?

I’l be out in Montana for some back country trout fishing / ground squirrel thumping this July with my boy. Hopefully I can thump some ground squirrels then. Haven’t looked into it yet.

I’m such a winer, but the sound could have been better. Had the volume turned up all the way to hear it. But I am a bit on the deaf side.

But it got me all torqued up to go hunting, so it was a good one.

in reply to: Micarta risers? #38865

I have a bow with a micarta riser. It’s a short riser, so I asked the bowyer to just use micarta to bump up the mass.

I don’t think there is any other performance aspect to it.

There are two types of micarta typically used in bows. Linen and paper. Bow tips are usually made with linen as it is stronger but lighter, and more expensive. Risers are usually made with paper as it is heavier and less expensive.

Bob Lee makes a lot of risers with it. Black Widow puts it in all their risers too. It’s a fine material to make a riser from.

I wouldn’t hesitate a bit about getting it. In fact, I would prefer that to tropical woods. I don’t use any tropical woods in the bows I make ’cause I don’t want to participate in any way in the deforestation going on. So I have a hard time getting the weight of my risers up. Micarta is a good way to get a heavy riser without the heavy ecological cost.

          Hi Steve ,

did you saw any reviews on 3 rivers or another web site sailor offering no forgiving bows ?

Forgiving and no shock are first quality all bow sailors or makers assure on their pub !

Everyone knows what to think about theses exceptional ‘’qualities ‘’

          Try them and see 😳

The reviews I spoke of are from customers. And yes, there are negative reviews. But the majority of customers were happy with the bow. You should go see for yourself 😯

SH – on your bow hand shock question…

I’ve made bows with backset like your two. I went as far as the overdrive model, but ended up backing off to about what the regular primal stick shows.

When I look at the primal stick on the Robertson website, it looks like there is some reflex in the riser. Can’t see it in your picture though.

The bows I make have no backset at all in the riser. And when I first started making them, they would rattle your teeth some 😳

But I found that if I could get the tiller just right and made sure both limbs were working the same, I could get rid of the hand shock. In fact, the other day I did some crono work for a friend who likes target archery but wants a really fast bow. So I shot mine at his draw length (29 inches) and preferred arrow weight (9gpp) and found the bow shot 183 fps. About what his fancy reflex/deflex getup shoots.

I was expecting a hard smack of a handshock, but it was still quiet.

So that prompts me to suggest that maybe the tiller is out, or the limbs are not working together. If you are shooting split fingers, it should be 3/16 or more positive.

Most Importantly, don’t grip the handle too tightly and try varying where you heal the bow. This can help the limbs work together better and reduce hand shock.

But in the end it’s true: No D bow will ever be as calm as a R/D bow.

We have lots of sugar berry on our place. I’ve been thinking about cutting some to cure up and see what it will do.

What do you think of the sugar berry for lams? You’re the first I’ve heard try it.

BTW – Nice bow! For you, or a friend?

I think there may be something going on that is causing your bow to be unforgiving. What do you mean by “can’t get decent arrow flight?”

By adding string leaches, you are giving more inertia to the string which will allow a weaker arrow to fly. This might be a clue to what’s going on… One place to start is by stiffening up your arrow.

To me, it’s kind of like a handshake. Too much grip and it is overbearing and obnoxious. Too little and it’s fishy and untrustworthy.

As others have observed, this design raises its ugly head every few years just to be forgotten again.

Can you imagine what will happen if you forget to “grip it like a snake?” A few busted and bloody skulls on you tube and it will sink back down into the abyss of bad ideas.

It doesn’t bother me when gadgets like this come out. It’s what we humans do when we’re not eating, sleeping, or bumping uglies. We look for ways to make “it” better. The problem lies in the definition of what “better” is.

If we could only put all that creativity to work making the land better and our lifestyles more consistent with peace and sustainability…

Well there’s two things for sure…

                                1. Lars sure got people stirred up, which ain’t a bad thing.

                                2. I’d sure like to get some archery lessons from that sweet

lass 😀 (I’d pay double as long as she keeps that arrow in

                                her mouth)

The second video was a hoot!

But really, as my daughter would say, “ya’ll need to chillax” It’s just a ding dong you tube video.

What I am jealous of is how you guys come up with these video’s. For once, I’d like to be the first to watch one instead of the forty millionth…
