Great Northern as some nicely priced bows too. May want to give them a gander.
The Martin bow does deliver quite the hand shock in my opinion. More than is necessary.
There’s a cool grouse hunting video where the guy is using a martin longbow:
I’ve gone back to the 8 dollar no-pinch tab (the smooth version, not the calf hair version). Used it for 20 years before spending 8 years exploring gloves.
Shot 9 tilapia in a row with it the other day π A couple days before that I shot 2 tilapia with one arrow π π

Spot on R2!
I see where you are coming from Bruce. I think it’s part of the American Psyche. We started out as puritans, and have had a hard time shaking that limited perspective. Americans always think there’s a right way, and a wrong way, and nothing much in between.
That said, I hate the word Trophy as applied to hunting. And to me trophy hunting is just one of the stages some folks go through on their way to to becoming a fully aware and actualized hunter.
I thought Don Thomas’s editorial about the land grab being perpetrated by the repub’s and their corporate overlords is really important.
He mentioned in the article the song “this land belongs to you and me” which reminded me of the version we sang in the 3rd grade:
This Land is my Land,
It isn’t your Land.
You better get off,
I’ll blow your head off.
I have a shot gun,
You don’t have one.
This Land is Private Property!!
Sung to the same tune. Amazing that 3rd graders could outline the North American Conservation Model as seen through the eyes of conservatives.

Ahhhh, so grasshopper, when the archer and the arrow wobble the same, only then will they find harmony. Only then will the arrow find its mark. π
Moral of the story – If you want another beer, just bend your arrow a little more π
in reply to: What ya got goin? #61930Bruce,
I had the same problem with the hammer heads. The Ace heads are much stronger, and a bit cheaper too…

It appears that relationship might be inverse… The straighter the arrows gets, the more wobbly the archer becomes 8)
in reply to: Tendonitis? #59661I had the same thing in my elbows from shooting and doing pull ups. It took a couple years for the pain to go away. Still can’t do pull ups without new pain.
Two weeks, two months, isn’t enough for tendons to heal. More like two or three years. Pain means injury, so every time you “test” your tendons by lifting weights, you are setting yourself back.
I got these “braces” down at the drug store for tennis elbow. It’s a strap you wrap around your arm just below the elbow. It helps support the tendons. It has an air bag that presses into the pocket on the outside of your elbow.
Tennis elbow – pain on outside of elbow Golfers elbow – pain on inside of elbow. Brace helped with both.
I wore that brace every time I did work: chainsaw, shovel, shoot bow, chop wood, etc. Really helped.

Me too. But I’ve been dying the whole arrow. This probably wouldn’t be worth the trouble for a guy that shoots as well as you do, but for a lunk head like me that spends an embarrassing amount of time looking for his arrows, sometimes it’s the front of the arrow that shows up when I’m kicking the duff looking for it…
in reply to: Surewood Shafts #58392R2 wrote: Hey Steve, green might be a better color around here as of late. π
All depends on local, uh!
Electric Lime green for sure! My 15 year old daughter’s favorite color. She talked her mother into letting her paint a wall in her room that color. Now when I walk in there, my ears start to buzz π
in reply to: Surewood Shafts #57317I bought some canary yellow aniline dye that I put on my arrows. Can’t say how many times that has saved an arrow from being lost. Many, Many times.
in reply to: Toelke "Super D" #56297sure is perty! Fast? How fast? Numbers please…
D bows and wood arrows… that’s about as good as it gets!
in reply to: Surewood Shafts #56290That’s what I used to get started down the path of making my own arrows. Bought their test pack so I could figure out what spine seemed to work best.
They sure make some nice shafts!
I haven’t tried the parallel shafts. I just started right off with the tapered shafts. How you like the parallel shafts?
in reply to: Whoa! Troublesome. #49644The picture is not true to life, as they say. It’s a digital camera phantom. Something about the way the photo sensor, or eye or whatever you want to call it records the image. If it’s a really fast thing, it doesn’t record it correctly.
Think how long that string would have to be to take that shape.
Really cool that it took the picture though. Go buy a lottery ticket, quick!

It’s not so much about the computations of the numbers as it is about the levity of the prospect of an arrow going that fast. As R2 said, it’s a fire hazard!
I’as just funnin’ with you fellers. But here’s the truth: I went out yesterday with it and shot 7623 perfect bulls eyes in a row with it π
