in reply to: Beach Bows #92132
So the nephews came for Christmas and brought their bows. All I can say is WOW! I took some pictures and video of their shooting it was so impressive.
I have a Rineheart cube target that the boys were using. Watching them play was a joy:
- They ran by the target at full speed and let fly 4 arrows on the run. All arrows in fist size group.
- They climbed up on the well and jumped off while shooting. Target 30 yards. Hit every time.
- They rolled around on the ground shooting from every conceivable position and nailed the target almost every time.
- They were up before the sun and outside shooting in 20 deg weather the next morning. Stayed out there all morning.
It’s like they had watched a hill video and were emulating him. But the fact is they have never seen a Hill video. Man it made me happy to see them go at it. That right there gives me the enthusiasm to make bows for every kid I meet.
It’s also a proof test. Those bows have been shooting for 6 months and show lots of wear and tear but are still going strong.
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #92131The kids go back to school tomorrow. This empty nest thing really sucks 😞
Deer season ends today. No hunting for me. But squirrel and rabbit go on till Feb, so let the good times role…
I did manage to get a 4 pointer back in late Nov when my kids were home for Thanksgiving. My boy helped me dress it out and drag it back to the house (which means after I dressed it, he dragged it 😀 )
I have two kids quivers and a kids bow on the work bench that need finishing up. One more quiver to go for a birthday present. So that will keep me busy while I am suffering the immediate affects of ENS.
On that thought, one more thing…
I haven’t figured out how to navigate the site very well yet. One issue is how to return to a forum after adding a reply. If I use the back button on the browser I end up having to go back past the added message. That seems wrong. So if just go to the members menu at the top and navigate from there.
It would be nice to have an easy way to get back into the forum.
in reply to: Shadow Hunter #88518Why Ralph, to whatever are you referring? Surely your predilections don’t run antithetical to the puddy tat?
Surely could use some emoji’s about now…
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #2251Your new handle should be : Dances with Bows!
in reply to: Broken nock #58137Or simply hold the arrow such that the nock is pointing away from you and, using a sharp knife or razor, “whittle” the nock off. Take a slice, rotate, slice again. It will pop off tout suite.
in reply to: Changes to Tradbow.com #12918So will the new site have a different address? How will both sites be available?
Too bad to see all that has been said on this site evaporate into the digital mist.
in reply to: Shadow Hunter #35064I got my inspiration from this guy:

If you do a search on PVC bow, quite a bit comes up. But the fellow that started it was Nick I think. I’ve bought a couple of his books too. They are simple to follow instruction books.
That said, the bow is of my own design, which I’d happily share. As is the quiver.
And here’s a trick I learned not too long ago about painting PVC. The best way to get the paint to bond to it is to prime the PVC with the purple primer used in making the glue joints between fittings. I dip a folded up paper towel in it and wipe the whole thing down. Then immediately paint.
Do it outside though, fumes are awful.

I’m only 5′ tall, & buy clothes in kids dept….
Sorry Grumpy, the list is closed now 🙁 I wish I had learned about these PVC bows when my kids were growing up. Oh well…
When the grand kids come along, gulp, I can make up for it then.
in reply to: Woodchuck Arrow Taper Tool Improvement #12368It’s a good tool. But for what it costs, it should be more user friendly. Squaring up the sanding plate to the arrow grooves is a trial and error process. Replacing the sanding disk is troublesome.
If I had to do it again, I might just build something myself. The motors are easy to come by, the sanding plates probably are too. Make a nice platform and use a router to cut some nice grooves. Build a motor mount that is easily adjustable to square it up. All could be made from wood.
Took about 2 seconds to find this on google:

I am sure there are many more…
If you like what Big Jim has, I bet if you explained yourself and asked him he’d tell you where he gets them. He’s a good fellow.
