in reply to: It's Time Again! #10944
I’m about to start reading Hutto’s 2nd book, “The Light in High Places: A Naturalist Looks at Wyoming Wilderness, Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Cowboys, and Other Rare Species.”
Looking forward to it.

in reply to: weight / foc #10631Field points? Yup – check out 3 Rivers, Kustom King, etc. They offer them up to 300 grains.

I will order some weights and and try to beef up the front and see what happens.
That’s what I would suggest. Though my draw length is longer than yours, I shoot 5575s out of a #54 bow, with 330gr. up front.

It’s the stuff that wants to hunt me down and eat me for supper that makes me nervous. That would include the big bears and big cats. dwc
We have healthy populations of both here. Trust me, it’s never far from my mind when I’m out hunting solo in the woods (which is most of the time), doing the exact opposite of everything they say you should do in grizz country.

Better be safe than sorry. Put some [strikethrough]scotch[/strikethrough] bourbon down your gullet to kill all those wiggly critters.
A policy I try to stick to with anything worth eaing. 😆
Had a dream last night that I fell through a hole in the snow into a wolverine den. Freaked me out so much I woke up. No kidding.
Friend of mine saw one the other day in a canyon on the outskirts of town. Males have an average territory of 200 sq. miles. Based on that, they figure there are only about 4 adults occupying the entire Teton range. That’s some pretty low population density.
in reply to: How many bows do you have? #9400Currently I have 5 bows:
Robertson Fatal Styk – 60″ #54
Robertson Tribal Styk – 60″ #54
1970 Kodiak Magnum – 52″ #50
Kanati hybrid – 56″ – #53
Howatt/Martin Savannah – 62″ #55
The Robertsons definitely get the most use, though I love pulling out the old Kodiak now and then. The two hybrids are also sweet shooters, I just haven’t ‘connected’ with them as much as the others.

This bow is a little heavier than I’m used to so my arrow setup will have to change. My 3555’s only shot okay with 90 grains up front so I’ll have to go to 5575’s.
The bow is a little noisy too so I’ll mess with the brace height and install yarn silencers instead of the beaver hide and string silencers on it now.
I bet you’ll find that the heavier arrows will help a fair bit in quieting it down as well.

Wow – that’s some juju!
Sweet looking knife, R2.
