in reply to: Centering glue on broadheads #9855
OK Guys, I understand that the position of the broadhead on the shaft is important, especially if it is a 2 blade. The blades need to be in a vertical plane to your bow handle. Up and down as you look down the arrow. Not side to side (or flat). I was told to do this for 2 reasons. 1. So you can feel the back edge touching your bow grip fingers and not over draw 2. The angle of the broadhead blade (at the bow) will match how it strikes the target as it hits. Now, I was told this a long time ago and have stayed with this form of mounting and shooting my hunting arrows. In my few tests on targets I have found it to be true. YMMV, and I may have been told wrong? But, thru the years it has worked for me and it does make it harder to mount my broadheads as I don’t settle for any wobble. What’s your thoughts??? Bullseye
in reply to: Spirit Longbows……….. #9804Bob, I’ve owned several of John Strunk made bows. They are built very well, shoot very well, and are very beautiful. I highly recommend any of his bows….He’s a great guy and a top notch bow maker. Tom
in reply to: Grizzly broadheads, redux #28684I have a bunch of old Grizzly’s at different weights. I have never been able to really get them as sharp as I wanted to. Any “correct” procedures for getting the job done??? Thanks, Tom
in reply to: Native Finds #49717I used to go hunting on my Aunt & Uncle’s land along the Ohio River here in Ohio. Uncle Wendall knew I loved bowhunting and was always giving me stone points he found. I still got them…..somewhere in all my archery artifacts. Bullseye
in reply to: With A Heavy, Heavy Heart #49698Dr. Ed, My deep felt condolence. May the Good Lord give you comfort at this sad time. Bullseye

in reply to: FOC arrows of differnet tribes #46493Dr. Ed, I guess that was why they used high poundage bows !!! I understand they pulled the arrow back to their ear or even further……..That much arrow weight would rip your arm off if it hit you there or in the shoulder ! 😯 Bullseye
Maker, That’s a great lookin’ bow ! The sight window seems real short in the picture. Is that an optical illusion or just exactly how you cut it ? If correct, I’ve never shot a bow with that short of a window. Do you anchor at your eye ? I have to see my arrow when I shoot. Very nice bow ! Bullseye
in reply to: FOC arrows of differnet tribes #45285Not wanting to hijack this thread, but, Dr. Ed have you ever looked at the arrows used by the English Longbowmen in the wars such as with the French? With those bodkin type heavy points the FOC of those arrows must have been great with the ability to go thru chain mail and armor at over 200 yds !!! I wouldn’t have liked being on the receiving end of that “Scourge of the Grey Goose” !!! Bullseye
in reply to: 100 Year Anniversary Main Hunting Shoe #45270Dave, Sno-Seal has always worked well for me. I have both unlined and Thinsulate boots for whatever the weather brings. I’ve had my original unlined boots for so long that when I put them on they seem to lace themselves !!! 😉 Bullseye
in reply to: King Kong is Coming #45263Oh no, not the “dark side”………Aaaaaah! 😆 Bullseye
in reply to: Remember you early days??? #45258Yes Troy, You just had to remind me………No seriously, That was funny. No doubt just like I was years ago….sigh! 😉 Bullseye
in reply to: Who Hunts Alone Most of the Time? #45249I’ve hunted by myself for many years. I’ve, also, had the pleasure to be part of a couple different small groups that were a great experience. It has always seemed hard to find that “right” combination that brings it all together for the benefit of each hunter. At least for me anyway. I envy those that have great partners(Dad, brother, wife, best friend) to share the hunting times. Until that happens for me I’ll keep headin’ to the woods with my faithful companions, my bow and arrows! Bullseye
in reply to: A long look at fletching and EFOC #30889I, for one, enjoyed Dr. Ashby’s seminar dealing with EFOC. I have been using the bow and arrow since 1957 and through all these years understand what works and doesn’t work ! Actually, Dr. Ashby backed up alot of my discoveries I have learned. With this information(from the seminar) and researching here, I have made up my own arrows with over a 22% EFOC and I’m excited about my further adventures hunting with my new equipment(I bought a new bow at the Expo). I’ve had to reduce my bow poundage due to a recent injury. I have, also, been a modern broadhead collector and attest to what men have come up with(in their minds) to enhance better bowhunting success, Let me say it has had me scratching my head many times ! Thank you Dr. Ashby for reviving my lackadaisical attitude towards my bow hunting !!! I will report on my coming adventures……Bullseye
