in reply to: DIY Back Quiver #36155Hullo Matt. I too tried to make a backquiver last off season, but I found it a very frustrating experience. So instead of starting from scratch I purchased a DIY backquiver kit from 3 Rivers. I was able to build it without to many hiccups and have found it to be a very servicable quiver. Last time I checked their website they still had it advertised. Might be the way to go if you find the do it from scratch method too difficult.

in reply to: 200 grain head/ 35# longbow/ wood arrow? #15901Yes what you say is very true. So far I am basing the 500 grain mark on a article in TBM a while back that dealt with performance of the average womens (lower wieght)bow. I can’t recall exactly but I believe it had accounts of 35# bows and 600 grain arrows shooting through 300ish pound Boars within 20 yards or less. So I figured 500 grains would be a good starting wieght in my search for the best trajectory/penetration combination.
At any rate the bow aught to be quiet.
in reply to: 200 grain head/ 35# longbow/ wood arrow? #15847Yes the bow is 35# at 28″. I want to use a 200 grain head for the sole reason of creating a 500ish grain arrow for this bow. Due to injuries I can only handle a 35# bow at this time and figure 500 grains will give me more penetration than a 300 to 350ish grain arrow.
So using the ballpark estimate given above I should look for a 55/60 spined POC shaft?
in reply to: G. Fred Asbell Haversack & Wool Pullover #15607I ordered a green wool pull over from GFA a year or two back and really enjoy it. It did have a few faults in that the stitching was weak in the pockets and along the bottom, but I took it to a local sewer (sp?) and had all that re-enforced. I also had two additional pockets added, one for each side of the chest. Even with the additional cost of required to make it functional, it is by far the least expensive wool product I own.

in reply to: Hunting Deer with a 35# bow… #1013235# for Elk! That seems a bit light.
But it aught to be enough for Deer eh? Figuring I would set er up with some 600 grain arrows and 2 blade cut on contacts.
Anyone here taken a Deer with such tackle?in reply to: Deer Hunters…Morning or Evening? #10032I kill more Deer in the evening, but I do hunt both. Not sure why.
in reply to: Motivation #29424While I do enjoy hunting as an activity and the wild as a release from the every day rat race, my wife and I hunt predominantly for meat. Between the two of us we consume about six Deer a year. Thats why the rifles always come out the last week of season, unless we have already tagged out with the bow.
