No doubt David! They use the same strategy that the deer use… and the squirrel use… and the rabbits use… hmmm…

In the past, I have had 4 silencers on recurve strings. I don’t know that it helps that much. I prefer to use a single set of silencers and position them based on what the bare shaft arrow tuning tells me.

The silencers can be moved up and down to fine tune your arrow setup. If your arrow shows weak, move the silencers towards the tips. If your arrow shows stiff, move your silencers towards the nock set.

This heterodyning thing has me scratching my head. Heterodyning is the process of adding two frequencies together in order to obtain a third, different frequency. Somehow that’s been coopted by some hand waving into some sort of formula guaranteed to make your bow more quiet. Snake oil.

Put a couple wool silencers on your string and tune the bow for best arrow flight with a 10 grain per pound arrow, and that’s about as good as you’ll get.

Check your brace height and arrow weight. They are usually the biggest culprits in loud bows.

I have a spot where I’ve been sitting in the woods near where the creeks come together…

Every morning that I sit there around 10am a gobbler with a 6 inch beard comes down the hill the same way. See’s me, and gets all upset and surprised like. Same thing every time. It’s getting boring.

But wait till spring. Won’t be a turkey within miles.

It would never have occurred to me to question the appropriateness of this ad with respect to the helicopter. I just wouldn’t have given it any thought.

I guess unless someone slaps me in the face with it, I keep the view point of; each to his own. I think Don summed up my own feelings on this the best.

And now four wheel drives are bad? I couldn’t live without one. Have to get the firewood up out of the hollow somehow. Don’t own a mule and cart. I use my four wheel drive all the time doing chores around the farm. And I have used it countless times to pull people (with those holier-than-thou two wheel drives) out of the ditch in inclement weather.

There sure is a lot of judging and sensitivity in our country these days over just about everything. It would be nice if we could relax a bit, give each other a little slack, a smidge of respect, and maybe even the benefit of the doubt.

Nice! 35#’s is stout for a young lady…. She must not be a wee little thing.

Not sure why Patrick chose to have the camo on the inside….

But it seems to me that the seat itself is good concealment. I’ve had two coyote’s, several turkey, and a few deer within just a few feet of me this year while using the seat. I’ve taken no special care to enhance concealment. In fact, I mostly just look for a tree that seems like it will be comfy.

I think the way it wraps around the body is enough to eliminate the “it’s a man!” response in critters. It is it’s own concealment.

I’ve used the hammock seat more this year than anything else. With so few deer it’s hard to pattern them, and it’s nice to sit somewhere different every day to keep the stink down.

                    Good idea David!

I know when I was younger and spent a lot of time in the library, I would comb through the magazines as they opened up the world to my young and inexperienced mind. I discovered all kinds of interesting things about life in those magazines ๐Ÿ˜ฏ 8) ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ™„

                      Those are some beautiful woods!

I lived in that area for 9 months back in the mid ’90’s and thought I was going to be there a while. Rented an apartment in Rinecliff. But alas, got moved by the company down to NC.

Spent all my free time trying to get to know the place and roaming the woods looking for a place to hunt. Deer everywhere then.

It’s no wonder that Teddy R. was inspired by the landscape to become the great conservationist he was.

Now you will have to stay home long enough to eat all those beautiful deer!

                        Wojo,

Good luck with your moose hunt in Quebec! I hunted there several years ago with friends and we had a bunch of luck. They had some land to hunt on the border with Maine and a cabin that was used only during the maple syrup season. It was a great experience.

And the meat is pretty darn good too!

Let us know how it goes…

                          Bow Envy?

Envy and education. Folks don’t know there’s another choice. They are bombarded with advertising and exposed to no alternative.

I think the traditional societies are somewhat to blame. It’s expensive to advertise, but if there was an advertisement in every hook and bullet magazine from PBA or Comptons or a cooperative ad between them all, they might see another choice.

Yet another reason TBM is so important. Just having it sit on the shelf at the 7-11 might put the seed in somebody’s head if they glance at it…

Where I grew up, we had 1 TV channel. It never was on, and I never new about it till my wife introduced it to me when our boy was having his first christmas. That was 17 years ago.

                                Ralph,

I don’t guess there would be much rotation. In practice, it may rotate one way or the other just because it is impossible to glue all 3 fletchings perfectly straight.

New Archery Products came out with a plastic vane called the “quick spin” vane several years ago. It has one side grooved and the other side smooth. Not sure how they managed to get a patent on a naturally occurring property of feathers, but they did.

If a person didn’t know that wild turkeys beat NAP to the idea a few million years ago, you’d think them folks was genius’

When they first came out with them, they were 4 and 5 inches long. Now that the short vanes are all the rage, they make them 2 and 3 inches long.

My bitz jig was set up for helical and that’s the way I did it for years. But then I read an article from the ’30’s talking about the merits of the new fangled helical feathers and it got me to thinking ๐Ÿ˜ณ I know, like pouring molasses is January. So I fletched up a half dozen straight and gave it a whirl.

I ended up buying a new straight clamp and indexer for my bitz.

Just walking through the woods with an ASL and a back quiver full of arrows is joy enough to fill the whole day.

By the time this time of year rolls around, I’d really rather the squirrels and deer just keep their distance.

Finished turning the last deer into 35 packages of burger, 4 packages of backstraps, and one tasty package of tenderloin for a special occasion not including the kids 8)

                                  Whew!

And leave those deer alone! Five deer in a season with a longbow is a crazy good memory. Savor it! I, for one, an jealous. My best year was four with the bow. Predictably followed up by my worst season of one with the bow.

                                  Happy Birthday and Many More!
