Knit, or maybe crochet? I’ve watched a few fellows make fishing nets. I bet its not hard once you learn…
I sure do like to see people make their gear by their own hand. Thanks or sharing and Good job!
in reply to: Weight Tubes #117044Stupid forum. I typed a response and when I hit submit, it gave me some crap about not being logged in. Lost the response…
Read the reviews on 3Rivers for the weight tubes. Some folks say it affects arrow flight, some say it doesn’t. Some say it nocks the nocks out on hard impacts.
I have no personal experience with them.
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #117043They look good! Do you tie your own nets too?
in reply to: What ya got goin'? 2 #11352140 mph winds here yesterday and 70 deg. Same today. Tomorrow back to a low of 20 and high of 40…
I like a fellow who appreciates redundancy in his quivers 🙂
in reply to: Backpacks and Bino's #113288That’s a different looking kind of backpack you have there Noah. But if you don’t mind my saying, I don’t think it would be very comfortable to wear on your back for a long hike 😜
in reply to: twisting strings #113287You have to twist the string in the same direction that you twisted the loops. Sounds like you twisted the string in the wrong direction.
The way you can tell which direction is correct is to hold an inch of the loop between your fingers and twist it while looking closely at it. If the twists open up, it’s the wrong direction. If the twists tighten up, its the right direction.
in reply to: twisting strings #112812It sounds like you didn’t twist the bundles and string in opposite directions. And or didn’t twist the string up before bracing the bow. After the string is made, you need to put a bunch of twists in the string as a whole.
in reply to: Backpacks and Bino's #112810Here are some pictures of the 2nd backpack I modified. Please don’t fawn over my model. He’s a bit shy… This is the one I take out west…

All I had to do for this backpack was sew the clips to the nylon straps and then affix the straps to existing structure on the backpack:

The clips I bought don’t have a swivel feature to them, but I think they will work just fine:
in reply to: Started a couple of bows #112550I like your tillering tree!
So it looks to me like the bottom limb is weak already. What do you mean by “lighten the bottom limb”?
I really like to learn from other peoples methods for timing the limbs. Care to share?
in reply to: $10 experiment #112549Was it sold as a compressed? Or was it just an extra tight straw bale? Just curious.
I started with straw bales but switched to hay. Hay costs more, but it’s denser and stops the arrows better and lasts way longer. And when it’s worn out, I toss it over the fence to the sheep and they take care of it for me.
My experience is that it won’t hurt the arrow finish, unless it gets wet. When it starts to compost inside, it makes some amazing stain that will turn your arrows a funky camo.
in reply to: 25th Annual Whittingham Traditional Rendezvous #112493Anything to do with shooting arrows at whistle pigs has got to be good!
April is when the sheep drop their lambs, so I’ll be with that. This may be the last year I actively farm though as the kids are gone. We’ll see… Sure would like to just get up and go.
Have fun if you go, and shoot a groundhog for me (insert happy killer face emoji here)
in reply to: Now hear this #112436Speak’en of cocky, I learned something interesting from an old book the other day…
The cock feather on an arrow is not named so for a bird, and thus the accompanying feathers are not named hen feathers.
The cock feather is so named in the same sense that a gun is cocked. It is to make the arrow ready for shooting. The mis-named hen feathers are properly called shaft feathers.
So put that in your duck soup and eat it (insert snotty-a$$ emoji here).
in reply to: Now hear this #112435I like shootin them cocky red-head ducks the best! But alas, the final revenge is theirs…
in reply to: Started a couple of bows #112432Looking good! I saw a couple name drops that makes me think you’ve visited Brandon Stall’s forum, or the pirate forum…
I like the integrated look of limbs in 3 piece bows. Slapping them on top does look clunky, course, and incongruent.
Thanks for sharing! This forum hasn’t had may build alongs lately. Bows, arrows, quivers, toothpicks, whatever. It takes a lot of effort to stop what you are doing and take pictures. Much appreciated!
I have a bow in the oven that’s been sitting there for a few days. My kids are home this weekend, and I have a bowfishing friend coming for a few days of winter carp fishing. Of course, now it will be cold for the next few days… Ah well, put on the thermal undies and wool socks. Time to stay up late, sleep in, get carp stinky, and have fun!
The promise of that bow blank will keep, and provide good talk while we stalk the wiley carp.
in reply to: Making Bows #112431Your welcome!
