Happy birthday Dr.Ed! thanks for your enlightened wisdom.
in reply to: Coyote on Deer #36414The m44 dispenser is akin to a land mine. What if a little kid found one and started messing around with it out of curiosity. The fact that the agents carry the antidote speaks volumes.SCARY!
in reply to: Pulling my hair out over quivers. #33633Here’s one I made using a Selway slide on quiver.I put rifle sling post on mine, so I can put on whatever sling I want.It helps in adjusting by turning the post as well.I only use this once a year when I go to a 3d broadhead shoot in Brownsville.I prefer the bow quiver when hunting. I keep a velcro strap on the hood so I can stick a fir bough in it.I believe it really helps break up my outline and conceals my draw. For practice a back quiver.

in reply to: Sixth Sense #29200I was clearing brush and trimming up trees on my property, and I kept getting a creepy feeling something was watching me.A few days later I get this on my trail cam….Makes you wonder.
in reply to: Economist article #28240Here in Oregon we are facing the onslaught of crossbows under the guise of “for the disabled”. If this passes I’m sure youth will be next, followed by senior’s and on to the general public. Our neighbor Washington state started with 300 disabled crossbow permits and now has over 3000.We are not Pennsylvania. In fact our deer and elk herds are in decline on both sides of the state. With youth hunts, land owner preference tags and controlled hunts.Elk are being hunted 8 out of 12 months in the calender year. This is absurd!Game management is all about making money, not maintaining healthy herd levels.Pro market driven consumerism and loss of habitat is at play here.I’m sure the NRA is getting a fat donation from the manufacture’s being the harlot that they our!Can bow hunting save America, perhaps not.I must say though, the locavore movement gives me hope.
in reply to: Tuffhead lost and found #27357I going to put my point brush in the drill press and let her have it.Now I need to find my broadhead holder.I’ll give it the acetone dip as well.

in reply to: Tuffhead lost and found #26328Dave,I roughed the surface with sandpaper and cleaned with alcohol.I used bohnings insert iron, perhaps not the best choice.I missed a bull earlier in the season.(tickled his chest with the feather right behind the front leg.)Stuck in a log and had to dig it out with my hunting knife. The arrow(broadhead) was solid.Went home took down my 3d deer target and put my reinhart block target on top of 2 haybales to get the height of a elks vitals. When I shot my cow the arrow went right to the spot I aimed at.

in reply to: Just a thought (on technology)… #25049I like the petzel headlamp colmike mentioned.I use it with the red filter to get close to my hunting area. Then I shut it off and wait for daylight . I agree with Dave and Steve, mourning’s are the absolute best.
Used to take a couple of bagel and cream cheese turkey sammys. Now I just take a couple of protein bars and jerky.Good for the whole day.
in reply to: Good news for hunting #51624Good article.Brings me back to the days when I was in my 20s in the working poor class.I bought a 303 British no4 for $50 with a cut forend held to the barrel with a pipe clamp.Went to a gun show and bought the metal forend piece and made a fit with a handsaw and chisel.Ejector spring and front sight protector were purchased as well(cheap).Made quite a handsome sporter.Old timer sharp finger(bi mart $12) and army surplus wool(goodwill).I brought home many of blacktails with that old gun, mainly does. Cut them up myself and used a hand crank meat grinder. Those were good days.
