in reply to: Celebration #38604
I pluck some brush, usually sagebrush, for their last meal then I say a prayer with blessing and thanks to their spirit and in thanks from me to my maker. I believe all life is connected and thus deserves our respect and gratitude.
in reply to: 2013 hunting rigs #37873Me too, messes me up. Was gonna hunt w/47# and back up w/46#. Now going with/50# Osage and back up w/47# Osage. Same wood arrow so that’s easy. I been seeing pigs and a little more umpf make me happier. Besides it’s my favorite bow!!!!
in reply to: Hunting canoe #36750Just think, if you were really good on those surf skis you’d have a height advantage to see from and to shoot from. Don’t even worry bout the crocs, take your dog with you:D
In regards to your pm, the dog was probably kinder to the crocs gut than a man would be. We humans are kinda nasty uh? 😆
in reply to: Good luck! #36746Not only good luck y’all but be careful too. You don’t wanna be running around with a hand that still ain’t right or something else buggered up or your gone. That’s something, the being careful and smart about it’s use, that doesn’t come with any piece of equipment.
Kind thoughts to all and enjoy your venison as I did tonight. Hope everyone gets to enjoy next years.

in reply to: The Trad Knife Thread #36674That’s sharp! Pun intended.
in reply to: Sacred Places #36671One of my sacred spots, under the rim of the NW corner of the Grand Mesa overlooking the town of Mesa, now has a house, outbuildings, kids, barking dogs and a school bus running by at that time of year. Where I used to slip up through the oak brush, I loved to hunt the transition of tall timber to oak brush, I no longer can. At least 10 years ago it was so and bet it ain’t any better now.
I wonder after the housing crunch how many of those weekend escapes or summer homes or whatever that clutter up the hillsides were lost and then bought up by the wealthy from the far west or even farther west enough to be the far east?
I have some little private, semi-sacred spots on the land I hunt now and I can live with that. Dwelling in the past gets me nowhere so I enjoy the moment and have my little places. One of them is where there are metate’s and I know the ancient ones sat there in peace. Great view of that part of my world. Another has chipped flint all over so I know some feller sat there and made arrowheads while he surveyed the land for game or enemies.

You understand now why you came this way.
‘Cause the truth you might be runnin’ from is so small.
But it’s as big as the promise – The promise of a comin’ day.”
With strung bow and coffee in hand……….
Bout covers it!:D
in reply to: tapered wood arrows #35192A hardwood, self-nocked, tapered shaft with non-synthetic sinew. What I miss? 😆 With which I probably miss with anyway.
in reply to: Orion Rising!! #35172Like Pothunter I be mostly constellation blind. The big dipper so I can find my way and Cassiopeia, the “big W”. I wonder if Jim,being down under sees it as “the M”. I love the morning sky, I have some beautiful sunrise pictures that I often use as backgrounds on my PC. I often sit with my bow in hand and watch the day begin, the changing of the guard in the animal world, when I probably ought to have been headed somewhere. But nothing I pursue that day could replace the “morning rise” that fueled my soul.

in reply to: Noteable Quotes! #33615“When a man is at the racetrack he roars longer and louder over the twenty-five cents he loses through the hole in the bottom of his pocket than he does over the $25 he loses through the hole in the top of his pocket”. -William Barclay Masterson (Bat Masterson)
in reply to: COULDN'T HELP MYSELF #32835in reply to: 2013 hunting rigs #32668This my Osage 47#, 60″ Yellowjacket. My bow quiver is parts and pieces of a couple different types put together to my liking. Cain’t do w/o my haversack. The staff in the rear is not completed yet. Is part of an Osage stave given to me and when I opened it up it was full of worm holes. It’s making and interesting walking stick.
in reply to: Anti attack! #32435Looks like you plan not to share what’s inside the fence!:D That’s cool.
