in reply to: What wax do you use on your longbow #56784
My long time bowyer friend recommended “Trewax” which I still use with great results to this day….Try it-You’ll like it ! Horserod
in reply to: new matched set! #18180Steve, The book, Straight Shooting by John Schulz was a limited edition of only 100 books. My long time friend signed a copy and sent it to me in ’02. AFAIK, they were never printed again. It is an enjoyable reading book and a great addition to my archery library. Horserod
in reply to: HAPPY HOLIDAY #61744On this special day of Thanksgiving, it was special as all the family got together and shared, not only the delicious food, but, also, personal stories of days gone by. I got to shoot one arrow out of my bow as dark was setting in and a light snow filtered all around……A perfect shot! I retrieved my arrow and gave thanks to God for awesome day! Happy Thanksgiving to all……..Horserod
in reply to: Caroline & David Petersen #25945Dave, May our gracious God take care of you both and listen to our prayers for your wife’s healing.
in reply to: Art Vincent Pocket Quiver #11386I got to meet the “man” himself and look at his fine work firsthand yesterday at the PBS gathering in Cincinnati. Great guy and very nice work indeed! He makes a great new arm guard that I had to order. I highly recommend his products. Horserod
in reply to: Bows on the Big Screen #15195My favorite is also from the Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood. He has two Of the Sheriff’s men charging and Kevin strips both arrows cock feathers with his teeth and places both arrows on the bowstring together and quickly shoots both men off their horses! Awesome! Horserod
in reply to: Plains Indian arrows #12253Well said David !!! 😀 Horserod
in reply to: Coffee Mug Thread #58069I’ve got one of the “limited” new PBS mugs coming as I speak! Don’t even know what it looks like……the guy that was bringing them to the Kazoo Expo last weekend never made it. SOoooo, I’ll have to wait it out. 🙁 Horserod
in reply to: Clay Hayes new book! #56976I agree with ya Mark! I need something more tangible to hang on to. Horserod
in reply to: Reply To: No Elkheart?!?!? #56427Well Dave, At least we can all hang around here with ya just like around a campfire, right? One thing for sure……You are the “Man” !!! Horserod
P.S. Made the Expo again, but, the weather was terrible and the attendance was down….Good thing you came last year. It was great to spent some time with you!
in reply to: recurve bows #44554Another very good recurve is the “Ghost” made by Great Northern. Slender, light, smooth, & quick. BTW, a pretty bow IMHO ! Horserod
in reply to: Bamboo Flooring for backing bows? #44540I may be wrong here, but, I believe they use a special process with Bamboo when applied to flooring applications which makes it harder….read: Durable. Horserod
in reply to: field bow by great northern #42926I will simply say: Great Northern’s Field bow is one of the best kept secrets in bowhunting equiptment. If you have a need for a lower poundage bow, for whatever reason, I don’t think you’ll find a better bow for the money!!! Horserod
in reply to: Kanati by JK Traditions #17414Aaaah, Yes,….”The One” syndrome!! I have a bad case of it myself!!! Horserod 😀
in reply to: Yew Longbows #21642Back in ’84 Ron Maulding (Bighorn Longbows) made me a beautiful bow using Yew. My very first shot from it just outside my back door fresh from the box was a perfect shot on target! I’ll never forget that moment…..nor forgive myself for selling it a year later. That was a well made masterpiece and I haven’t found another Yew like it since. But, I keep looking as I believe Yew makes a better bow. There’s a special “feel” with Yew that isn’t duplicated by any other wood. The bowyers I know have always said that the core wood in a bow doesn’t make any shooting difference given the bows are built alike. I have proven this wrong (as far as I’m concerned)in my many years shooting and many bows owned. I firmly believe that bows can be made from the same species wood from different trees (maybe from different areas) that perform better in the same applications. Just my 2 cents…..YMMV. Horserod
