I’ve been way off the grid, working, working. Wanted to check in with PA archery opening in my WMU this Saturday. I wish you all great hunts, lots of tasty meat and safe returns. All the best, dwc

Hi Tom, good to see you here. I don’t get on much these days, but keep meaning to get more active again. Spring is in the air, sort of, and I’m itching to shoot some more.  What’s the news? dwcphoto

Scout, it was a great time. Well worth the drive. Life takes on different trails sometimes and it’s likely those trails circle back here and there. For me, starting a new career, running two businesses and making time just to be home limited my spare time for things like this forum, as valuable as it is to me. The best part is being welcomed upon return, whenever that is to be.
            Much appreciated! dwc

I still have an old Heeter’s catalog. I spent so many hours as a kid dreaming through those pages of Herter’s Best. What adventures I had from my living room.

To quote the great Walenda, life is on the wire, the rest is waiting. There are two seasons. Hunting season and getting ready season.
Enjoy that shoot. Good to add a couple of cents again. Life gets busy and I’m easily called away.  (Uncle Albert)

I was at ETAR on Friday and heard that DP was published here. After a long time away, I signed in and scrolled back to the recesses of the magazine to find this gem.
When I dusted off my old Browning Wasp more than a decade ago and went to the woods with a bow in hand, I started looking for good reading. I came across an interview in the unlikely Sun magazine with Mr. Peterson. Back then, just like this morning, I felt a connection. This guy has an ability to put down in words feelings that reside in my heart, as well as my brain.
This sort of philosophy is true to us and might be best kept in the forefront of our journeys. So glad to see it. More please.
                  All the best, dwc

That’s as blurry as a released bowstring. As long as people are respectful, I’m ok. I’ll let the category aspects up to the judges in competitions. Thanks! Dwc

Hi Guys & Girls, long time gone but not too far.  Had a very busy year and just got away from things. Hardly got to bowhunt more than a few times this year, but did manage to put one on the ground with a round ball the last morning of the winter season.  Snow is starting to melt and I’m getting edgy to get the bow out again. I hope you’re all doing well, staying healthy, and eating the best cuts! dwc

Hi Guy, I’ll throw 2 cents in. Pick up a pack of Judo points. I favor them for stumping more than other points. I like the point design as it allows some penetration yet they allow you to wiggle them free. I tried a couple versions of hex heads and I was shocked at how bad they destroyed the arrow. I bet they’re good for rabbits but don’t allow any penetration on stumps. The penetration scrubs off the energy from the arrow as it comes to a halt. The hex style bounced back and virtually exploded the few inches behind the head.  The prongs on the  Judo help keep the arrow from burrowing and makes it easier to find your arrows.  I suggest you shoot one at a time and unless you know exactly where it is, go find it before launching another. Lose one at a time.  If you have a dog put some treats in a pouch. Handle the treats with your string hand and the pup will follow that scent on the nock and help you recover arrows. Enjoy! Dwc

That’s a great shot! Maybe you’ll get lucky and get another great shot in later this fall.  Today was a bit like Christmas. My hunting license arrived in the mail, but even better a couple of beautiful wood arrows arrived. I’m shooting carbons and they work great, but a friend of mine, who will remain nameless so he’s not inundated with requests…, urged me to give wood another try.  And I sure will. Also, here’s a photo of a deer I saw a year or so back, just for fun. All the best, dwc

Charles, I don’t have any real data to share. I’d have to look it up. They just mated, just like the Neanderthal mated with others. I’d blame it on the guys, myself.

Charles, yes, the coyote-wolf mix sure is real. There really are no pure coyotes in the East. My understanding is that the coyotes was eradicated from the East and as the Western coyote made it’s way East via Canada, as you said, it mixed it up with wolves.  All coyotes in the East are a mixture and yes, some of them are very big. They are not much of an issue in my parts. Deer are doing fine. I’m happy for them to eat all the mice they can catch.  I’m sure they eat a house cat on night patrol now and then, but that’s the risk of leaving your cats out.  I see sign quite a bit, but it’s rare to actually see one. It’s usually a grey blur in the woods.
