in reply to: 2 blade broadhead orientation #41434
All I care about as far as broadheads are concerned, is whether or not they are spinning true. As long as they are spinning true, I haven’t found any one orientation better than the other.
in reply to: Right helical vs. Left helical #40709Nope. As long as the arrow flys great, it matters not the orientation of the cock feather.
in reply to: Tarantula hawk #40165HOLY CRAP!
Man on man do I appreciate our -40*C winters now.
in reply to: What is TOO Heavy? #39530Beutiful design you came up with. Kinda curious how such a heavy shaft is gonna fly as well.
in reply to: Eagle Eye Champion-Ron Swartz #38966Congrats to both father and son!
in reply to: LOOK OUT TREE RATS! #38955“Wolves”! Man that sounds like a nasty citter. Never seen anything like that around here. Guess I shouldn’t complain to much about our -40*C winters after all .
in reply to: even MORE contemplations! #38945Now that is a good idea. And of course it was sitting there right in front of my nose. But its going to be a while yet before I make any posts to rival Steve Sr or Dr Ashby in length. Don’t think there are that many things sitting in my noggin at any one time:(.
in reply to: even MORE contemplations! #38255Steve Sr. I love your posts (or perhaps they should be called speeches). Always something to make you think. But I gotta ask one question. How do you type all that before the forum logs you out due to inactivity? Your fingers must be like greased lightning.
in reply to: LOOK OUT TREE RATS! #37736Yah I like the look of them G5 Talons as well. Just can’t imagine paying that much for a blunt though !
in reply to: My Setup Adequate for Elk??? #37735Dave no offense taken. My reasoning is as follows…
1 dozen Carbon Express Heritage shafts = $84.99
1 dozen Easton Legacy shafts = $65.98That is the main reason I shoot aluminium. Plus they give me a 10.6 grain per pound arrow out of my 43# bow (arrow wieght 307, adapter 25, broadhead 125), without having to buy expensive inserts. Also I have found them much easier to tune than carbon.
Now don’t get me wrong, I fully understand and endorse the lessons learned from Mr Ashby’s research. I just can’t justify spending that kinda money on arrows. So until I can, I will stick to 20 yard shots on Deer and Bear (10 on anything bigger), with ethical shot selection. My setup may not be optimal for Moose, but I would have no issue taking a ten yard shot, fully broadside with leg forward.in reply to: Finally back to bow building. (Updated pics) #36955Very good work on that bow. In particular I like the stippling in the grip.
in reply to: LOOK OUT TREE RATS! #36159Nope not scarce, just used to be protected as a fur bearer. Alberta has ooodles of the critters.
As far as fleas go, I hadn’t really given it much thought. Perhaps if I let em sit for a minute or two until the fleas abandon ship?
Other than that I figured I would skin em on the spot and put em in a baggy with a couple of ice packs. Should keep em cool until I get em to the crock pot :D.
As far as heads go, I was figuring on using that Hammer blunt 3 Rivers sells. Works wicked on Grouse n Bunnies, and hopefully for Squirrels as well.in reply to: GFA Quiver #34893I used one for a bit, but found that it was too awkward to use in conjuction with my fanny pack. Now that I have finally mastered file sharpening my broadheads, I will just stick with my back quiver instead.
in reply to: Bowfishing first! #30392Good shot and great eats!!!
in reply to: Elk Season is only 36 days away! #26098Great pics and captions Mr Downing! And as for your 36 days, I’ll rub it in a little that I only have 33:D!
