in reply to: A Few Pics From the Evening Hunt #41156
Thanks for sharing,Smithie….really neat pics and narrative.8)
in reply to: My Wapiti quest ended last night #41149Alex…glad you had another experience of a lifetime. Thanks for sharing your encounter with the bull. I’m sure you did the proper thing by not taking the 25 yd. shot. There’s next year for you…8) Wayne
in reply to: Congratulations Dave #38694Way to go,Dave! Hope Alex has some luck left in him….or skill. Would like to hear a more detailed account of the hunt from both of you. 😀 Wayne
in reply to: A swing and a miss… #37424I also had hunted quite high for some time and seemed to have the mmost problems on the shots that were close. Twice I missed at under 10 yds. only to have the deer go out to around 20 yds where I was able to place a fatal shot.
Having fallen a few times from a tree getting in and out convince me the I was better off learning the ground game better. I must say it is a more exciting and challenging way to hunt whitetails. Nothing like being on the same plane as your prey. I’ve had some really great close encounters and can’t wait for the next…
Oh yeah, great looking truck, JayB..8) Waynein reply to: A change of heart #35159ReadyHawk…I went through the same thing a few years ago after finishing off a young deer that had been wounded. My son had shot the yearling with a slug gun and it ran over near me and I had to finish it off. Had some mixed emotions about hunting in general for awhile. Took me some time to get over it…. So, I believe I know where your’re coming from.
Hope you keep up with the traditional archery end of it; hone your skills. Maybe we all soften up alittle bit with age but it’s nothing to be ashamed of.
Waynein reply to: Got my long bow back….. #33873You’re right,Steve…just something about having it with me again and prepping for the season. Good luck on your deer season coming up too! Wayne8)
in reply to: Help for a new longbow shooter #32683I don’t get the part about your club not allowing wooden shafts.:? There definitely something up with how they feel about traditional archery, I would think. Wayne
in reply to: Discipline in the field #32561I think the most important thing to do while waiting out the game to come your way is to enjoy your surroundinngs and just take in the hunt as one of life’s experiences….. Good luck to you both, and to all of you bow hunters who are fortunate enough to be pursueing elk. It seems that Mr. Downing has given you some sound advice,Idabow. Wayne
in reply to: World's worst deer-trailing dog #32545Hilarious!:lol::lol:
in reply to: oct/nov TBM brought tears #32504Yes,that was really a heart rendering story. Reread it, just to get the full effect. Quite the moving story, Mr. Wesbrook. Wayne
in reply to: Motivation #30445Much of what Steve Sr. said rings true for me on this subject…(awesome thread, fellas!) I tried compounds for more years than I care to say…but finally just quit that after a decade for lack of a challinge. I was killing deer year after year and not feeling satisfied with the sport(?):?
A good friend invited me to take up hunting with the stick and string and I never looked back. I have a “beginner’s mind” again and I aim to keep it until the day I die.
Waynein reply to: Early season doe #30430Congratulations on a job well done! Probably not much time to bask in the moment with the early season heat and all.:)
Waynein reply to: The anser to all our problems! #27068Yeah, I’d like two of those hats,Dave! One to $#%* in,and one to cover it up…..
Hope you’ve been having fun chasing after the elk,DP! Wanna hear about your adventures…..and the field testing you’re doing with the Ozonic hats.
Waynein reply to: How to ruin a hot spot #22840Nate, I really enjoyed your article…. Sorry, about your luck with the slob hunters. I’d report these stands, if I were you. I only hope I am able to get out west and hunt elk someday.
