If it helped brighten your day, then it exceeded my expectations, R2. Thanks to you both for all you do to keep this forum going.

What a great gift, Ben. I remember coveting my Dad’s #110 as a kid! I bet he’ll treasure it forever, and may it bring him good luck afield!

Another stupid beginner ? Why if the arrow fly’s straight do you want to shorten it? Case in point, I draw 27 1/2″, my arrows are 30″ add broad head and up to 33 or so. With 500gr up front and 31% EFOC they hit where I want them (when I do my part).

From Dr Ed’s data that longer lever arm is what we want if it fly’s right so if tuned and long why would you want to shorten it? Or am I just confused about the original question:shock:

There was an article last year in TBM on making a simply jig for a Dremel – I’ll see if I can dig it up.

I’ve been using the file method lately too, and it seems to work as well as anything.

Ha – indeed, his form is impeccable. Much can be learned from such a wise man.

Hope to see you there, compadre.

The tape is great! I switched a few months ago and never when back to glue! I do put a small drop of glue on the tips and tails of the feathers.

That’s the same way I’ve been doing them for years, and it works great.

Prior to adding wraps or paint, have you tried shooting with a bright, 4x AA fletch and nock combo? I find that I have no problems seeing my arrow in flight with yellow, orange or pink fletching and a bright nock color. Just sayin – if you’re really getting on board with high FOC and reduced fletching, don’t add more than you need to on the rear end, if you don’t truly have to.

Seriously though (or as serious as I can be) – “The River of Doubt” is a really good read, about an impressive expedition, during a time when that word still truly meant something.

And I always find it fascinating to look at archival photos of both archery equipment and shooting form/technique across different cultures. It casts a lot of perspective on those modern day “experts” who say that one must shoot their bow with such-and-such form, that an arrow has to be set up such and such way, etc. And often, when you look around, there are numerous examples from other cultures of archers who did things quite differently, and obviously with success. What did all of these other people, who depended on their bows for survival for millenia, do without this modern expert advice?

That’s a beautiful piece of work, Mohawk. Love to hear more about it, when you have a chance.

Thanks for the links, Mark. I can’t get enough of archery-related history!

On the subject of the English longbow, one of the challenges I find is that it has become so romanticized and mythologized – esp. in English versions history, that it’s hard to find truly objective accounts. But then I suppose that’s the challenge with much of written history in general…

Speaking of turkey recipes, we’ve been doing wild turkey barbacoa lately…..and it’s really good. Just use Hunter, Angler, Gardener, Cook’s venison barbacoa recipe but chunk in turkey instead (and use chicken or turkey broth).

Turkey barbacoa sounds awesome, and HAGC is a great resource for all things game and forage. So many excellent recipes on there. Hank Shaw’s two books are also good reads.

Good timing on this post, Cameron – I was having similar thoughts just this morning. The TBM forum is truly a unique place, entirely due to the people involved in contributing to it in many different ways. To all of us who feel similarly – let’s commit to keeping this a great and fun place to celebrate our passion for all things stick and string!
