in reply to: Wood, Woody weights, high FOC, etc. #34926
Tom you may want to get in touch with a shaft producer such Rick from the The Feathered hast, they can help with the FOC idea, and give you some base numbers. I did some research and went with for my long draw of 30.5″ and 48# draw weight, a type of wood called Western Larch in 70-75 spine for the arrow. I got them from Kootenai Archery in Idaho, I told him upfront I was going with a 200gr broadhead or maybe heavier later and that is what he recommended for me. Once I get tuned and built for shooting I will give a review and my FOC number then.
in reply to: how many arrows for hunting? #32287About 4 to 5 with one a judo for a rabbit if the shot presents itself.
in reply to: Summer Reading #31412A couple I have been reading about hunting but not necessarily bowhunting are The Still-hunter by theodore van dyke, a good read from an author about Tedd Roosevelt’s time. Second one is “Grizzly’s and white guys the story of Clayton Mack”. Both good ones that I have enjoyed. Last summer I read “Death in the Long Grass” by Peter Capstick about being a PH in Africa.
in reply to: Looking for Staves in Colorado #26809Shawn;
have you called the guys at RMSG, when I was in Tuesday it looked to me like they had a couple of pieces of wood that could be used as stave’s. If not you might want to post on CraigsList might get some luck there.
Troy, beautiful wood combos. Hope it shoots as good as it looks.
in reply to: What deer do all night #23499Dave, do they offer Samba lessons for the dancing challenged 🙂
in reply to: The boys of summer #20177No need to set up the blind near a wallow with these guys. I think I should just sit on the fence like a buzzard and shoot them. This definitely beat the usual bunny porn we get to watch in the garden
in reply to: How to deal with mosquitoes? #19060Tom, I like the way you think these double bonuses that would encourage the wife to let us hunt even more.
in reply to: How Often Do You Practice? #19058Since I am not where I can shoot everyday I try and practice form with a stretch band to groove the correct form in my muscle memory
in reply to: The boys of summer #19057It is interesting that they are coming down close to Denver this year must be the drought. Of course the wife being a joker said I should buy a tag for back yard and shoot one of these when they come back in Spet.
in reply to: Back Quivers #15935Here is one I have been looking at a combo backpack and quiver. This particular model has a tree strap to hold to tree.
in reply to: Hunting Help!?!?!?!? #15743I have friends who go to Alaska for fishing a lot and what they do is vacuum seal the meat and flash freeze it in dry ice and then ship, I don’t know if that would work for you in the meat realm. If you have an idea of the nearest town to where you want to hunt, check and see if their are any m,eat processors in town that could help you with the shipping of your game. If you are coming solo and only have say 7 days to hunt total i would fly so I get more time hunting. Have you tried to find any archery clubs in your area that you could join, someone their might be willing to be your mentor.
in reply to: new looking for any advice #8888What type of advice are you looking for it seems like you are shooting pretty good, where you can go hunt. If you are looking to tighten your groups then I would recommend filming yourself and looking at the video along with a qualified coach to see what you can improve on.
in reply to: Newbie looking for first longbow #8337I have not tried maddog bows but have heard good things about them. They are one option, I got lucky and bob lee was having a sale so I got nice bow for half price, you might want to try them, there are others but can’t think of them right off hand.
in reply to: Recurve or Longbow… #8334One thing I would encourage is to take lighter recurve and work on correct form until the shot is a natural sequence. Maybe even looking at some of Moebow youtube videos they helped me. Once you are comfortable then you can try and step up to a heavier weight bow. Have fun with the journey
