in reply to: Squirrels 4 Duncan 0 #33241
Now I can’t really prove this but I firmly believe that squirrels can bend time and space. I cant tell you how many times I excitedly watched as my arrow sped right at the squirrel and then…poof! The squirrel is three feet from where I just saw it, alive and well to boot! Maybe I should start throwing rocks.
in reply to: OUCH…..my nose!!! #25547This may sound silly, but could this be caused by a slight drift in eye dominance? That is if you shoot three under and you are used to looking down the arrow, and your eye dominance has drifted a little your brain may try to compensate by putting your other eye (and nose) closer to the arrow. I dont even know if this is possible, Im just throwing it out there out of curiosity.
in reply to: got a 4 point #25534Your buck has a very surprised look on his face, guess he didn’t see that one coming. Congrats. I went out today in the sleet and saw nothing but squirrels for five hours. I missed all three shots on them but not by much. I even had one come up the tree three feet from me to check me out. It looked like he was flashing gang signs at me. I finally got bored of the utter lack of deer, and started to use the “can” real agressively. Had a beautiful eight point walk in and gave me a broadside shot at 17ish yards. I missed that too. (but not by much!) Oh well I wasn’t on my game today but it was a blast (minus the sleet). Congrats again, he is big for a 4!
in reply to: NY opening day #12313Thanks for the compliments fellas. I just finished with three hours of butchering. Glad thats done, its my least favorite part. But my foodsaver has made life a little easier. A friend gave us one a few years ago and I love the thing. One of our favorite venison meals is fajitas, so what I’ll do is cut up the strips and weigh out 1 lb and package them with the foodsaver. That way my wife only has to pull out the package to thaw, cook and eat. it cuts down on dishes and prep work for her. Plus it ensures I get fajitas every two weeks 😉

in reply to: Hammering Trade Points from Spoons #8142That is very cool,do they hold an edge well? I’m mean after all the saying is “duller than a spoon” seriously its really slick looking and i will definitely be trying that someday! Thanks
in reply to: LocTite Bheads #63900I used to use bees wax but now I use blue loctite. BUT I use just a smidge (like half a drop) as a little goes a long way. I dont have any issues getting them off when I need to.
in reply to: Dang Squirrels!!! #60950lol, I never get tired of the look on a critters face while they try to register just what kind of bush you are. Once I was sitting on a 5gal pail I found on the edge of the woods when a black capped chickadee landed of the barrel of my shotgun. He kept hopping up and down the length of the barrel and turning his head side ways trying to find a way into this “thick bush” in front of him. He would fly off and return. After the third viewing of his comical routine I couldn’t contain myself and I burst out laughing. At that a nice doe snorted about 25 yrds from me and ran off! I was so focused on this silly little bird and his dance that I didnt even notice the deer approach. Oh well, its one of my fonder moments with nature and I wouldn’t trade it for all the venison in the world.
in reply to: 1 finger over vs. 3 fingers under #60905I switched over from compound last year to a long bow and I practiced religiously. I was shooting split finger and couldnt get the consistancy I needed. As July ended I really started to worry that I wouldn’t be able to bowhunt this year unless I was two yards away. I tried three under and kept my middle finger as my anchor point. I found my “point of aim” at 19-20 yards and I started string walking. Now I can stack them in an icecream lid at 20 yards. I don’t judge my distaces as quick as I did while shooting instinctually but I hit what I’m aiming at. I can’t speak with any experience on the bow stress but I would be willing to bet that bow material/contsruction plays a big factor on whether you should worry or not.
Either way do what works best for you and your confidence, especially since were into the seasons. I wouldn’t change anything right now. Good luck!in reply to: A trophy "dear". My first! #60874Congrats Steve! They’re a blessing. I’m expecting my first son just after the late season (whew! timed that one just right).
