in reply to: Patience furthers #31059
Hey, congrats David. You worked hard. Ralph
in reply to: ALWAYS bring two #30919😀 Yep, it usually only takes one arrow for the kill but it seems to be question here of which arrow will it be? Not the one you ain’t got for sure! :D:D Good read! Good luck tomorrow, Ralph.
in reply to: Silencer Mystery…? #27701Mine are at about 15″ from the tips towards the center and that’s cause that’s about where I get to with two spans of a middle finger to thumb spread (that span works on all my longbows, no matter 64″, 62″, 60″ for some reason and it’s a “ruler” that’s with me all the time). I use yarn wool now but when I used cat whiskers I had a couple of bows that ate the bottom set. I moved them a bit closer to the center and that seemed to help. Maybe the vibration wasn’t as sharp and quick? Dunno. Yarn silencers are so easy, cheap and work really good. Somebody said somewhere that acrylic sucked but I have wool yarn and synthetic wool both and I can’t tell any diff.
in reply to: The anser to all our problems! #25236Time might be well spent improving one’s skill with the “stick and string” rather than sitting around dreaming up gadgets and gizmos. But I bet the dude running around with the spear had no problem with the new guy and his “stick and string ” that was sitting by the fire gnawing on a wooly mammoth drumstick. :D:D
They’re are many goodies out there that are great and maybe necessary for we not caveman folk (like a pair of binocs and a scope on my rifle and my eyeglasses) but there’s a whole bunch of useless trinkets being traded to the “ignorant tribes” for “furs”- $$$ so to speak.
in reply to: Unit 76 Colorado Elk Hunt #24524Outstanding and love the slide show!!!
in reply to: The anser to all our problems! #24314Hey Dave, guess you just gotta stay downwind of the contraption like you be doin’ with the critters you reckon? :D:D
I’ve been having wind problems myself. Not high winds especially because 15-25 common here but they’ve been out of the S.E. and that makes the approach to several ares I love to hunt impossible due to adjoining private land. I can see the deer in there but it’s a good thing I love to observe nature too cause that’s all that’s been happening!!! Wind changing after tomorrow me thinks. Yea!!
I went to Marine Corps boot camp starting in Dec. of 1966 and the only thing that I can remember about any military ethics was whatever the DI dictated 😀 was the ethical thing to be done. Simple case of ‘his right, my wrong’.
Ethics are dictated by society but that doesn’t allow that a particular society’s ethics agree with mine. My mind must be at ease with what I do, not anybody else’s. My ethics shouldn’t only be guided by the law of the land, they should be guided by what I think is right or wrong coming from my heart.
“What goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas” doesn’t work for my conscience.
in reply to: The anser to all our problems! #23118Well I guess I’ll throw the dang thing away :D:D
I gave up on scent killers along time ago. I might sprinkle sage oil or raccoon:D pee around sometimes but that’s about it. Things happen like this morn the wifey decided to bake bacon in the oven. Now everything on the east side of Amarillo smells like bacon baked in the oven including all that I hunt with. Since we rarely have for want of a breeze here in the panhandle hunting into the wind is just a change of direction to hunt for the day. I ooze around or spot and stalk so being on a stand isn’t a problem for me. Mesquite trees pretty much suck for climbing anyway.
No bears around here but maybe some coyote or coon will come looking for bacon bits in the morning. Hope it ain’t some 300# ticked off hog trying to get even though.
in reply to: Maybe a washout #13834I’m not really heartbroken myself as it has been hot. Now we’ve had some moisture finally, the weather is turning from 90’s to 60-70’s and I am better except for a pesky little cough. So a few more days of recoup is not bothering me. Once again, good luck all and pick a spot!!!
in reply to: Maybe a washout #13008I’m glad y’all got to get out. I’ve been ready to go and now I have an awful cold and gotta layout for 2-3 days. Bad timing cause we’ve had rain and all is wet and calm out. Oh well, it is what it is!Good luck everyone and “pick a spot”!
in reply to: easterners make good on DIY CO elk hunt #56400Congrats guys!
in reply to: Close Calls, etc. #54824I’ve had a bunch of dumb things that were “could’ve beens” but one that really worried the most me was hearing two rattlesnakes buzzing in the dark and me with the red lens on my flashlight. A high visibility device that is not. I stood dead still for about a week it seemed then made a very cautious move and all was well. I took the red lens off and said “nuff is enuff” of that thing. I’ve been perfectly happy with white light kept to the ground in front of me when sneaking in every since.
