Neil, being in the middle of a drought stricken region right now, that’s beautiful. Thx.

I guess table exercises don’t count here 😆
I have had an inguinal hernia come up however and going to doc tomorrow. My best laid plans may be put on hold for awhile I suppose.
in reply to: Naming your bow #38599I have a Yellowjacket longbow that was a gift from Gerald Johnson, the bowyer. It’s my Gbow. I have a “Red”, a “The Fly”(a fly got caught in the lams. Gerald was gonna cut it up but it shoots too well for that. My wifey talked it out of him), and my old “Griz”. The rest of them are just what they happen to be at the time. I have named a few of my arrows but those names not printable most places.
in reply to: What to know about Stalking #38323“I played like I was something I ain’t and snuck up on him”.:lol:
Slow as you go, avoid silhouetting, use the terrain, wind in your face, when you think you’re going slow as a turtle, slow down. Probably more but a good start.
Now in the spot and stalk scenario, at least where I’ve hunted for the biggest part, probably a good bit of ground needs to be covered before the actual in close stalking can begin. Then you got gotta get out of site, play the wind and bogey.
I’ve stalked deer just for grins and experience at times. You tell me how they know the difference when I’m after their hide and when I’m playing. Amazing! There’s something to an animals 6th sense about predators!
I sneaked 😀 up on a sleeping coyote one time, about 10 yards away, and quietly said “boo”. You talk about an animal turning inside out and hauling butt. I think I could have gotten closer but I worried about what might happen if he didn’t like me or something.
Anyway, challenging, fun even when busted.
I’ve been busted by stinking range cattle on many occasions so there are other factors beyond stealth to consider.
in reply to: Kidney Stones #37084I think my youngest bro will agree with you. Gotta suck. 😡 Good luck with them.
in reply to: So nice to visit the campfire… #37068I agree. I love it. Knowledge and information are shared here in a kindly and friendly manner. At other places some folks tend to be haughty because they know and you don’t.
I enjoy the comradeship shared here.
We are worldly and that’s cool! At least from Aussie brew to Irish whiskey. 😀
Glad you’re aboard.
Right on! My best “trophy” deer is a forky muley. I spotted him, a doe and a yearling about a mile away, watched them bed, sneaked to within 15 yards and had to throw a couple of rocks to get them to stand. I shot a tad high but hit the buck in the spine and dropped him where he stood. A prize moment in my life. I’ve never been so intense.
I’ve been close to whitetails but it’s always their fault they don’t stay put for the shot.:lol:
in reply to: What ya got goin? #34529Looks like you’d find something not quite so boring to do. 😆
Nice pictures and glad you had a good time.
