i don’t hardly ever watch wax job shows anymore. And as far as i am concerned they are not even hunting. To me it’s a bunch of phonies paying to kill not hunt. And then there mostly lacking the skill to probably even use a real bow. I’d rather watch old fred bear, howard hill, bill nagle films. real hunters and real bows. ya, they hired outfitters to, but at least they used real bows to make the show more interesting. I would be willing to bet that a 90 year old woman could succesfuly kill a anything on these shows with a compound as long as her health was up to it.
in reply to: Bummed out – a friend is giving up Stickbows #39167That is to bad your friend is giving up on real bowhunting. Someday down the road he will be sorry he didn’t get his animals with a real bow. He will maybe get more bigger trophies with a compound, but it will always be in the back of his mind that he failed the real bow test, but will never admit it.
in reply to: Self guided public land feral hog hunting #8716Does anyone know of any excellent public ares to hunt hogs i n florida? These areas need to be accesable on foot. thank you, Paza.
never have used the stuff, to many douts that it will work. For one thing there are five words missing in its sells. (guaranteed or your money back.) To much money for something that more than likely won’t work. The best thing I’ve done is to use fox scent coming to my stands and make sure the wind is right. By the way, I have killed several deer because they got to nosey with the fos scent, let there guard down and came to my tree stand. Keep the wind in your favor and good hunting!!
in reply to: a familiar cooling breeze #23589texasota, you going after minn. w.tails? Were going after antelope the19th. of sept in s. dak. I’m sitting over here in texarkana, ark. right now. going to dallas to unload my truck at 6a.m. tomorrow and then up to plano to take the rest of the load off. sent you a message last night on campfire forum.
in reply to: Any other Bear Archery enthusiasts here? #22773Ihave had bear bows for 40+ yrs. all have been excellent bows. the latest one i have is a 2 year old bear kodiak 60in. It shoots real nice and smooth. Have killed 6 whitetails and one antelope with it already.
in reply to: NRA pros and cons #46994I have to agree with Dr. Ashby’s comment 100%, I don’t believe the crossbows should be in the regular bow season, but we need all the support we can get. Maybe there should be a seperate season for the crossbows, maybe a shorter time period just before the rut and also during the gun seasons.
in reply to: Growing Antlers? #31491As far as I am concerned anyone caught growing antlers with anything other than a reg. food plot should not be allowed in the record books. Anything added to the growing area that is there to specifically grow the antlers bigger shound be illegal and not allowed in the record books. I also don’t believe compounds should be allowed in the pope&young records. They should have there own record book, maybe call it allen&jennings after there founding fathers.
in reply to: HUNTING PARTNERS #21484texasota: where at in tex are you at? i get down there every once in a while from s.dak. with my semi-truck, hauling morrells hogs in a box.
in reply to: Elephant with a bow #21429Howard Hill also tied the leapord to a tree in the movie Tembo. Just look real close when watching the kill and you can see the grass move between the cat and the tree it is tied to. Howard was a great bow shooter and hunter, but had been around fagsvillle to long (hollywood). To much phony movie settings. Good luck everyone with real hunting and real bow and arrow hunting equipment. Pela-miya!
in reply to: Elephant with a bow #21423Bavalette: Go get your elephant, tells us your stories when you get back! I’d do it if I had the oppurtunity, and so would any real traditional bow hunter. As far as the meat goes, the African tribes will be thanking you for many moons for the meat, and you will have your great exsperience plus the pictures and your trophy! Anyone who don’t know who bill n. is is not reading up much on traditional archery.
in reply to: Elephant with a bow #21412bvalette wrote: I’m surprised and I guess dissapointed in your question: Why would anyone want to hunt an elephant?
Sounds like the questions I get from anti-hunters when I travel…why would anyone hunt any animal?
The basic answer from me is simple: I love it and it’s challenging. An elephant with a bow brings back memories of Fred Bear and Howard Hill. Danger, excitement and a personal challenge.
And I want to do this the really hard way, not with a rifle, not with a compound bow but with a genuine longbow. Just getting in shape to pull an 85 lb bow is challenging in itself! And then stalking on foot and getting within 20 yards of an elephant with only a longbow would be a mega adrenaline rush! I’m intersted in the feat itself, for myself.
Would I eat it? Absolutely. The meat would be used to feed an entire village. I once hooked and fought a Great White Shark on a fly rod (The first in the world, by the way) at Pitt Island, 500 miles off the coast of New Zealand. Did I eat it? You bet! The best fish I’ve ever eaten and we fed the towns people, all 50 of ’em, on Pitt Island. I wrote an article of my trip in Fish and Fly Adventure Magazine.
So why would I want to hunt an elephant? The same reason you and I want to hunt deer or elk, or shoot fish with a bow or an alligator, or just some ole raccoon. It’s traditional archery, Man.in reply to: who was your mentor? #58999Fred Bear to begin with with all of his traditional bow hunts on the american sportsman. I would also have to say hill, pope&young, and a few other old time traditional bowhunters. And let’s not forget Glen St. Charles, he’s the one that officialy measured my draw length when I was in his n.w. archery shop back in the 70’s.
