“My name is Kevin Winkler and I am a Shrew-Aholic”
Yes, it is an addiction! I shot one at the Compton shoot a few years ago and fell in love with it. I should have bought it on the spot, but before I could make myself pry my wallet open, someone else had bought it.
So I ordered one. Not being the most patient guy in the world, I bought a used one, then another one, then another. 18 mo. after I had placed my order my custom made 56″ CH arrived, and it was worth the wait. You won’t find better people to deal with than Ron and Gregg.

Guess Gregg C. must have figured he had better get your new Shrew done before you get any older 😆in reply to: Who's going to Compton? #46338I’m planning on attending! Last year was my first time and I had a great time.
I was planning on being able to shoot my new Shrew at Compton’s…..But Dave P. must have gotten his name ahead of mine! Now Greg tells me not until August 😡 It will be the longest 14 months of my life.in reply to: IS EVERYONE READY FOR TURKEY HUNTING? #45582Dave, Thanks for the encouragement! The twohairs thing is a long story 😆
I’m going to do everything in my power to get out this season. I need to be in decent walking condition in time for Compton’s.in reply to: IS EVERYONE READY FOR TURKEY HUNTING? #42121Looks like I might be missing out on turkey hunting this spring. I drew a tag for the second season here in WI 4/14 – 4/18, But I am scheduled to have hip replacement surgery on 4/6.
The weather has been warming up nicely and I’ll certainly miss getting out in the turkey woods……..that is, if this operation keeps me from going. I only need to go about 100yds from my house to get to a spot that the birds frequently occupy. So if I get my blind setup before I have surgery and I can get to the blind with a walker, crutches or a cane, I may be able to spend a little time in the woods.
The doctor said I wouldn’t be allowed to drive for 3 weeks.
Oh well, I need to get it taken care of, so I can get my next elk hunting trip planned? Or Moose, Bear …..or whatever else is on my list. They shot me up with drugs last fall so I could make it through hunting season and I did, but it was a challenge.
I need to buy one of the extra turkey tags for one of the last two weeks of season, I should be able to make it out a little by then. Good luck everyone!in reply to: Swimming Reindeer Sculpture 13,000 years old #27059That is really awesome! Just to think that it was made that many years ago ….. Wow!
Just think 13,000 years from now when they find the wheel bow that I don’t use anymore that hanging on my basement.
“What was that thing” 😆in reply to: The Huntmore 360 Stool – An End-Of-Season Review #27053I’m a rather large fellow! That was one of the reasons that the 360 stool had me hooked the first time I sat in it!
It was very comfortable and you could swivel without the stool making a sound. Which I had never seen in any stool before. Plus the adjustable legs with the duck feet are awesome, especially in the marsh that I hunt on my property.
Heh “Mudd” If I’d known you had posted here I would have sent you a 360 brochure and a price list with that DVD I sold you.

in reply to: Spot and stalk quiver #27048I have to side with Dave on this one. I much prefer a bow quiver also, just for the sake of ease if for nothing else.
I did at one time try a side quiver made by Adams and I think I lost two arrows the first time I used it. Hunting in timber and brushy areas are not the place for that type of quiver as far as I’m concerned. At least if you want to have enough arrows left to shoot when you get where you are going!
I did buy one of Rod Jenkins Safari Tuff quivers and I think that might be a better option if you are looking for something other that a bow mounted quiver. It does has some nice features.
Plastic shrink wrap works great. Our archery club has a 14 target course set up with 4’x4′ targets that are made out of treated plywood sides and bottoms with a plastic mesh that we get from a cheese factory (or old carpet will work)that we place on the front and the back of the wood frame. We then stuff them full of shrink wrap and place a board across the top.
We have used the same targets for over 10yrs and only have to replace or patch the target face.in reply to: Tail cams?? #41473I’ve been using them for several years. I have even made a few homebrew cameras of my own. They are fun, plus they help me to know what the deer population is doing on my property, so that I can figure out how many does I should take from my property to keep the herd healthy and balanced.
I understand how some might feel that it is cheating, but I would rather know how many deer I have and what they are. I’m not a trophy hunter, I’m just trying to hunt for mature deer and have fun at the same time and if the big one comes along I won’t complain.
in reply to: Huntmore 360 stool – A Review #24322I’m getting in the Christmas spirit, so anyone that is interested in a Huntmore 360 stool I will include the shipping free in the lower 48.
Just drop me a PMin reply to: Huntmore 360 stool – A Review #59138Darren,
Glad to see that you have had a chance to give the 360 stool a fair try. I love mine and have sold several to freinds of mine out of my little archery shop at my house. I have even dedicated two stools as “loaners” for people to try before they buy. My everyone loves them once they have had a chance to try them and I show them how they work.in reply to: Sites on a recurve? #44300Steve, You might want to get Tony Camera’s new book “Shooting the Stickbow”
It might well be the best $20.00 you’ll ever spend. It has been about a year for me since I switched back to traditional and I have learned a lot from that book.
