I’ve been carrying a compass in my pocket or pack since I’ve been a scout, only about forty three years now. Although I’m not the greatest at using the thing, it is a great reminder to orient myself when walking into the woods, especially new woods. I hunted in a brand new spot the past two days in central PA and it was s comfort to have the compass in my pocket. I was able to relax and stay until after dark, assured that I could find my way back to the road. There was snow on the ground and really all I had to do was follow tracks in the snow this time, but the compass is a great comfort. It’s like having a trusted friend with you.
in reply to: tab vs glove #15740Hi,
I have a cordovan tab, a traditional cordovan glove and the Duraglove, all from 3Rivers. I ended up shooting with the Duraglove and it’s been great. I think it’s just a matter of preference, as I shoot about the same with all of them. I like the feel of the Duraglove, as it’s a lot like a regular glove. Lots of freedom of movement. I’ve been using it for a year and a half and it shows almost no sign of wearing out.
3Rivers will give you great phone/tech help if you want to call and discuss it with them.
Good luck, din reply to: Brace Height tuning #55398Thanks for your advise. Much appreciated. dwc
in reply to: Why carbon arrows??? #48346Would you guys say that carbon arrows are more durable for stump shooting? I’m using alum. mostly because they are cheaper and easy to work on, but I do have a nice stack of bent ones. Even an innocent looking rotten stump can hide stone and ice. thanks.
in reply to: Fletching glue #35661I’ve been using the fletching tape for a year and a half now and I don’t remember having a feather come loose. I do quite a bit of stumping and my share of missing, so the arrows get beat up a bit. When I look at my stack of bent arrows I see a small sea of nice looking feathers down the tube.
in reply to: Small Game Heads #35655I bought some of the hex heads and I bet they’ll work great on game, although I don’t have experience with them on game yet. I did try them for stumping and because they don’t penetrate at all, the shafts split right away. I’ll try them on squirrels sometime, but I’ll be using Judos for the stumps. Thanks,
