I just flectched an arrow with AA style cut from 3 inch parabolics to just a tad over 2.25 x 4. I’ll see how it flies in the morning, but I expect it to be just fine. dwc

I’m using 3″ parabolic x 4 and they work great. I get at least as good a flight as I did with longer x3s. dwc

I’m a big fan of Red Wings for being in the woods, but I do hunt in a pair of Bean boots. They work quite well. dwc

            Mr. Smiley,

I’d sign that. I’m in the Poconos, right up the river from you, I’m sure. Seems like a silly regulation to me. dwc

With the limited experience of only one kill on a small doe, I’m going to recommend the Tuffhead. Straight through and embedded 5 inches into the dirt on the other side. The only thing is, oddly enough. The Tuffhead is about 3 3/16 inches and only 3 inches long is legal in PA. I’m betting on not getting busted for 3/16 of an inch. dwc

                Ausjim,

There’s one fellow on here that gets 25 yards INSIDE his apartment… but then he’s a jazz musician, too. Good luck with that arrow, dwc

                  Hi Doug,

I’ve been using the 400s for my 46# longbow with 28% FOC, 50 grain insert, 75 grain steel adapter and 225 grain Tuffhead. Total weight is 625. I think they fly great. Have fun, dwc

I do feel for the folks out there that the noise bothers. I spent a month in the Philippines some years ago and every time I smell diesel smoke it takes me right back there… and I was a tourist. I can’t imagine how powerful that sensation must be when the reaction is trying to save your life in the memory that someone was trying to take it from you.

Fourth of July rings loud for the vets with me as do the other military holidays. I wish you all the best and the peace and quiet of the forest. best, dwc

                      Hi Etter,

I used to use them a lot, especially with aluminum arrows. They worked great and as long as I didn’t use too many I had no problems with the threads. I think three was pushing it, but worked. I use a little hot glue on the threads and it works well to keep them tight. dwc

Gotta love those hypothetical/proverbial stories. Have had lots of them myself to answer questions “just in case.” Happy Fourth! dwc

That’s neat. I use a dremel with good success, but this requires only a bit of hand power. thanks, dwc

There’s a lot of good advice in here. Getting good help will cut the curve for sure. Doing what you need to do to take the pressure off is really good advice. Be your own archer and do it the way you need to do it to accomplish your goals.

I had a three or four year drought when I started hunting with my old recurve. I killed a doe last year with my longbow and it was a great feeling.

Watch all the Moebow and George Stout videos you can find and read G. Fred Asbell’s books.

I think the taking the pressure off was the best advice though. Don’t let it become something you dread. best, dwc
