I’ve tried both vertical and horizontal over the years and I am more partial to horizontal. Seems to get more consistent flight. I do agree that alignment is most important. Horizontal seems safer too to my digits! “Vertical to get through ribs”?? Now that’s a new one on me. 😀

I’d be bummed too. It would be cool if you could get them to build a new one using the same wood type and design. A tribute bow. Wonder if they could take the old one down to the riser wood and build it back up with new limbs. Anyway, good luck with the Ocala. Your Dad will be with you in your heart no matter what you hunt with.

One of my favorites. I can only echo what others have said. Fly straight, sharpen great. Eskimos are my fav but I just got some No-Mercys to try.

Yeah, there’s a smaller species around here. I’ve seen ’em hauling barn spiders and small caterpillars to their burrows. They climb on top of the caterpillar and take off holding it with their legs. Looks funny. But geez, I’d like to see the hole that thing dug for that tarantula!

                Hi George,
I think Dave is right. That my be a fire drill but it is clearly a stone axe. The exciting thing about it is that it is probably pre-historic. Thousands rather than hundreds of years old. You should have it looked at and dated.

Beautiful work wTk! I like that stipple grip too. I’m also a survivor, since 3/5/01. Lucky all I needed was surgery. Godspeed on your recovery.

An old friend used to say it should be made a crime to prepare squirrel any other way but fried with a heap of mashed potatoes, cathead biscuits, and squirrel gravy and copius amounts of hot coffee.

Around here, we wait for the frost so the “wolves” will leave the squirrels. The “wolf” is a parasite that lives under the skin and grows to a grub-like size and can be clearly visible at close range. I usually just don’t shoot those with obvious wolf infestation. As for fleas, just hang the squirrel in fork and retrieve him on your way out. The fleas will leave the dead squirrel. If you have coyotes following you this might not work.

I’ve used flu flus and regular fletch with blunts. A rubber blunt inside 20 yards will kill squirrels but may not be as effective at longer range. Have not connected with judos or the ace heads. This may be the year!

                        Good job Chris!

The cats I’ve seen moving around looking for forage seem constantly in motion. You did good to hit a fish that moves like they do.

Carp seem to move alot slower while feeding making them a little easier to hit.

Catfish is definitely worth greasing the pan!

Yeah, they do wear after awhile but the NEET tab I’m reffering to is more durable than the model that has the plastic finger separator. I wore the hair off a many of those during my compound days (before release aids)
I think they lose hair quicker with the monofilament serving on commercial strings. These days I only use hand made strings with B-50 serving and I have not had much trouble with hair loss except on my head. Maybe I should’nt let the string slap my head:lol:

“Like an orchestra” I like that analogy! I guess when we use scents we are hoping for a deer that has lost it’s “touch” at picking you out!

I picked up my tab awhile back and have nearly abandoned my glove. I may never go back! I’ve always liked those calf hair tabs with the wool pad between the fingers made by NEET. They don’t use wool anymore, they have a rubber pad now but I still like em.

Everything seems to get commercialized. There is nothing like the real thing, ie, a doe in heat. Find where the does will be when they go in heat (Apply Steve’s Woodsmanship Here) and you will likely see a buck… soon. No need to buy scents, the deer will make plenty. If you insist on playing with scents, and I’m not saying I haven’t, you can collect your own. Ever roll a single doe out of a bed during the rut? Go check out that bed carefully, you might find where she urinated before lying down. An upturned leaf full of urine will fill a small glass bottle. As I said, nothing like the real thing.
As a side note, one problem we face when we dabble with scents is the introduction of our own scent. One can never be sure that we are not contaminating an area while putting out the deer scent. I would bet that most instances of deer spooking from “scents” are actually detecting the one who put it out.
                                  Just my 2 cents
