in reply to: Emergency Gear #40430I don’t think anyone should be without an Israeli Bandage. It is for serious cuts and punctures, even a large punctures to the abdomen. They are light and vacuum sealed. Buy two and practice with one. This thing could seriously save your life. Otherwise I carry all the usual stuff crammed in n a BOT.

in reply to: 30% efoc bare shaft broadhead test #27680Troy,
When i get into the high 700 or 800 it seems like my arrow starts to drop significantly. I feel like my 700 grain arrow is perfect for elk. It flys really well and it hits hard. However, the video did inspire me to switch from 3 five inch feathers to 4 three inch feathers with no wrap and a turbulator. that brought my foc up without adding extra weight and I must say my broad head flight is better than ever.

in reply to: ARROW SUGGESTIONS #23133I shoot beman ICS bowhunters. The say made in the USA. And they also are the cheapest bare shafts I can find. I draw 31.5 59# with 350 up front. The 300 spine works great.
in reply to: Bison and bunnies #20811I am no bison expert but I do know rangeland and cows. I always raise an eyebrow when it comes to winter grazing. No offense to any cattleman on this site but at least where I live it is opportunity for a farmer/rancher to be in the livestock business and the hay business. Winter grazers rarely have their livestock on their base property. The big difference between bison and cattle on rangeland is the distribution. If cows don’t have a cowboy on their asses all the time they will stay in the prime areas and decimate them. I dont believe bison have upper incisors like cows (which pull most native grasses out by the roots in highly erodible soils- Henry Mountains) and they eat approximately the same amount of air dried forage in a month. Bison will naturally cover a lot more ground thats what makes them lower impact. Coyotes are compensatory breeders and rabbits are boom and bust. I dont know how much hunting effects them.:?: Just my 2 cents

in reply to: 30% efoc bare shaft broadhead test #14437Jason,
Really cool. Thanks for sharing. I am only at 24% but my arrow is 32.5 inches long. My total weight is 700. If I try for 30% my total arrow will be almost to heavy. But you have sold me on it. I will try to shave my feathers down and add a little more up front.
Thanks again DK
in reply to: Arrow Weights #59479Hey there,
I think it depends on what you are hunting and how into 3d shooting you are. What are you hunting? I shoot an arrow that is approximately 700 grains total weight for elk and mule deer. I dont change for stump shooting or any other kind of target shooting just because I want to be consistant. If you are really into 3d shooting, like competivly you can switch it up but if you are just a regular for fun target shooter I recommend you shoot the same weight all year long to build consitancy. If you are hunting whitetail you might be able to get away with the same weight. I dont know anything about those critters someone else will have to weigh in. If you shoot carbon arrows you can simply slide a weight tube into the arrow and it will make it heavier. I think it also stiffens your arrow as well though. Hope that helps

in reply to: Back stops #44695Excelsior bale. 4ft by 2.5ft. Stood up and leaning against my fence. I shoot it mostly. It does freeze and make it tough to get arrows out of. Have not lost a glue on point from wood or a carbon insert. I don’t use it as a backstop for my BH target. BH’s will not come out of it. If in the summer arrows start to go through it I soak with water. Arrows will start to go through it if you shoot the same spot a million times. I put some old carpet behind it.

in reply to: Thinking about trying wood arrows #41164Steve,
What kind of jig do you have. My jig will not allow it to line up with where want it. The grain will not line up with where I want the cock feather.
Thanks DK
