Exactly
Good training aid — forces you to focus on the target and look good doing it!

You bet. Both are great bows . 54″ long and 53 # and 55# . Shoot fine . Little trickier to shoot than the bigger std longbow. However due to their design, I don’t have any problem at all with them for instinctive shooting at hunting ranges ( 25yds +- for me) they would be perfect for your scenario.
If you get an opportunity, and it is ok with your New Guinea friends, post some pics
My Grandfather was a Marine in the Pacific in WWII and actually visited NG . I Havn’t had the chance to go there myself. I understand it is quite the undertaking to negotiate it’s jungles.

Thanks for the good info
I don’t know why I havn’t experimented with this before ( youth and not hunting with a bow in cold extremes do to living in the SW), but I will definitely give it a try this fall as prep for cold weather. The older I get, my hands seem much more susceptible to the cold.

Haha – I know exactly what you mean , we had a LOT of wind here yesterday and today. I probably won’t shoot, as it is difficult when you cant stand up in it – haha. Figured I would stay ” bedded up ” just like the deer —–read a good bowhunting book.

in reply to: Glove vs tab… #137139I mostly prefer a glove and use an American leathers – which I like best so far.
Looking at R2s custom tab design, I was thinking that might be just the ticket for real cold weather work. Ie the adjustable string tightener would allow it to be used ( and stay put ) over a heavier winter glove. What say you Ralph – have you tested it in panhandle winter extremes ?
Anyone have an update on the Graf App trail expedition ?

Interesting article. I wonder if they have an achery organization that helped initiate the legislation? Good for them. Maybe we can get TJ and webmom to travel there and do an article on bowhunting in Russia—

in reply to: lightweight takedown bow #136984Hi Luke
Welcome to the forum , sounds like you are in a unique place and situation for hunting adventures.
I have 2 RD takedowns, both quite short and very light. A shrew Samurai ( Coffey/ java man) and a Centaur archery. I like them both and They would work perfect for your situation.

I forgot that Stephen and his son were hitting the trail this year. Wish them the best of luck and fun times hiking and camping. Looks like they are going to get plenty of “Cold Weather Training ” judging from the weather your getting back there.

Congrats on your winning score. Keep the pressure on !

Only beavers near me are in the Rio Grande. Game and fish traps them periodically, and removes them for placement in more wilder regions of NM. This is due to the home / land owners in the valley complaining. I see their works in the mtns around here, always impressed by the magnitude of it. They are industrious .

Do to the arc of the arrow, if you are using point of the arrow as a sight – You will have to aim low, until your point on distance is reached. ( usually closer with a 3 under shooter, somewhere around 30yds or less – split finger is usually 50-+). If you use your middle finger as the anchor it should lessen this somewhat. These comments are from memory back when I tried 3 under. I shoot instinctive /split finger. Either is fine, just what one likes better. You might try the string walking technique also, if you like to ” point on ” at closer ranges.
Maybe Stephen will comment as I believe he shoots 3 under
