in reply to: Why the need for so many different sportsmen orgs? #38924
There is so much good written here I hesitate to comment. But what the heck Mom is out fishing.:D
In my simple mind the group called BHA is probably the best that speaks our values–and I belong to many others and shorten my membership on a yearly basis.
Then this group on this forum–well It’s the only one I’m on I don’t think I have ever heard anything here but intelligent open minded give and take. So we as a tribe are also a voice and we have leaders like Hayes,Smithhammer,Petersen, mom.
Don’t know where I’m going with this but to say we should all hang in there and do our best on the National level but more importantly profess our values when we can at the local–just try not to be shot:evil:
Shot the bow today:D

in reply to: Wood Arrow Advise #36396Well Jason you are about to get the advise of the experts. Check out the Ashby forum and read the reports. As I told you on our shoot Sunday past–woods look great–but when hunting we owe the prey the most ethical kill we can do with trad gear–and from my limited knowledge that means carbons with 28 to 31% Efoc.

Having spent most of my outdoor life in a tent(at best), then hauling around a 36′ fifth wheel and then driving a 25′ class C around the country for two years–I can safely advise–tent is best.
Fit out the pickup with all the kitchen and living room stuff, tent out back with tarp to cover the above items and your set and if it turns real bad you can crawl in the truck.
And you only have one vehicle to maintain.:D

in reply to: cutting carbon #33856Well Bruce neither do I:shock:. I can’t even figure out what I was responding to. Rule #1 don’t type a response while engaged in conversation with someone sitting across from you.
By the way I think the file works fine for cutting carbons.:D

Another stupid beginner ? Why if the arrow fly’s straight do you want to shorten it? Case in point, I draw 27 1/2″, my arrows are 30″ add broad head and up to 33 or so. With 500gr up front and 31% EFOC they hit where I want them (when I do my part).
From Dr Ed’s data that longer lever arm is what we want if it fly’s right so if tuned and long why would you want to shorten it? Or am I just confused about the original question:shock:

What Peter Storm rain gear do you use for hunting? There are so many on the web site. I used to use the stuff for off shore sailing but no way for hunting. Model# or item # greatly appreciated.
Concur with the pebble over duck tape or in the absence of rock, sand or dirt works well.
Remember the ole issue poncho–great survival rain gear, makes a great shelter (I lived under one for some weeks) but not quiet enough for hunting–still would like to find one of those.
1shot–what’s a shamagg or leaving the FJ?
But thanks to Clay’s video I no longer carry a hammer, finally found a good use for this hard head:shock:,
