I hesitate to add to Dr. Ed’s informed response–but from my experience without the aid of a any devices the heavier the arrow with most weight up front means max penetration. So with 500gr up front total arrow 775gr–carbon of course–they shoot were I point them. And punch thru whatever target I give them.
So forgive an ole tankers reminding: our primary armor defeating round the APFSD, is so many inches long with a heavy Depleted uranium point–as my memory remembers about 60% Efoc–of course it’s flying at 1500 m/sec but that puppy penetrates a Russian T-72 at 3000m.
Having read all of Ed’s reports–I can only say that heavy with most of that weight forward ensures an ethical kill.
Have fun with that–Joe Furlong offers all those weights in field points with multiple adapter weights which make the experimenting fun and informative.

Bow–Java man “Elkheart too” r/d” longbow 54″ 52lbs at draw 27″.
Carbon arrows–trad only 500. 30″ 3×5″shield. 100gr brass insert, 100gr steel adapter 300gr point or tuffhead.
Total arrow weight- 775gr.
Efoc-31.67%
Set this up for elk but will use on whitetail keeping with Doc Ed, and Dave’s comment that there is no such thing as overkill.
As Joe said -somewhere- that light but strong carbon allows you to hang a lot on the front end.
Anyway they fly straight and hit where I hold. Could increase foc further with smaller Fletch but why mess with a balanced product–at least for now:)

Yep we had a great time. Wojo is so enthusiastic it’s a pleasure to be in the woods with him. Had another “old guy” friend with us today–nice to have those younguns shag arrows in the brush:D. It appears that I have a weekend shooting buddy–perhaps in later years he can push my wheel chair down the trail:lol:
Alas no beer at the end–a little early for happy hour even for me.

in reply to: In Case Y'all Don't Know #50412For a bit? I plan on being silly long time. Like all things, seriousness is best kept in moderation…
Yep, spent to much time being serious:x

in reply to: In Case Y'all Don't Know #47318Like the ancients when I look up at night I see –things—you all see Bruce out in front with a chronometer?
The constellation Smithhammer! Some shot Ralph man my 775 gr. arrows are really going to upset the folks in the mountain in CO. Springs:D
Doc good luck on that two step–don’t send the money to Bruce we will just see a bunch of new bows and leather goods–on second thought that would make him our “lobbyist”
Can’t think of a better one:D
Sorry mom (Mrs. Sect.) shot the bow today:shock:
Mike
in reply to: In Case Y'all Don't Know #46030So that explains all lost arrows—they achieved escape velocity:shock:. Makes you wonder if we are all responsible for that space junk that they made a movie about.
Seriously, I think all of you should run for Congress and Steve for President. He can nominate mom for Sec. State she is defiantly qualified for that job.
Doc–I think your post was in error– Eids has the sister not pothunter. You ask the wrong brother around here and your likely to get a shotgun in the face:D
Not sure about tangents, ricochets more likely.
To much fun

in reply to: Most Embarassing Shot Anyone? #46022Wow you miss this site for a day or so and you miss so much valuable info–deer dodging arrows or flinging them with horns, doc smelling paint (whiskey is better).8)
I never miss–well ya gotta shoot first.:D
What a delightful end to a busy day–thanks:lol:

Brilliant! Archery is art–therefore the implements are artwork. And then reinforced by Steve’s comments and all the others. –So follow my logic train–
Linda is an artist. Artist not only create art they buy and trade art. Review of our website indicates that “art services” are part of the business.
OK bear with me:
Linda=artist=business
archery=art=bows/arrows/quivers etc.well I forgot the sign for infinity.
There fore baring dark energy influence and no longer blaming the Hammer.
Mike + plus archery stuff= art. And then when one really looks at the quantum level, we are talking tax write off.
Just thinking–trust I will get some good feedback on the hypothesis. 😆
Off to shoot a trad bow event somewhere in PA just south of Pittsburgh tomorrow.
