in reply to: Nothing is wasted … #37779On our elk hunt in CO this year, we had two immature cats come into our cow calls. We later found an adult cat dead a few miles away near an area frequented by many horse back riders. I’m betting the cat met its demise at the hands of one of the local packers.

I live, work and hunt in the Lebanon area.
Wow. Small world. I’m from Enola. My father and his entire side of the family still live up there. My brother teaches at East Penn High School. You ever smallmouth fish the river?
Its been a few years, but I used to fish at the south end of TMI at Falmouth. We caught everything there where the Conewingo runs into the Susquehanna.
in reply to: Patience furthers #31087Congratulations Mr.Peterson. Job well done.
Same here in Central PA. We are quite the exception to the rule in thi state apparently. A friend was have trouble with his Hoyt compound before our CO trip. The shop owner took a micrometer all over his bow to see what was wrong. He couldn’t figure it out, so he just sold him another bow! I asked what he will do on the trip if something comes undone? Just shrugged his shoulders.

Taking the life of an animal is not a pretty thing…. and I believe with all my heart that it SHOULD be earned…. and not given. Shooting an animal using archery equipment…. ESPECIALLY Traditional equipment says a lot about you as a “Hunter”…. and you SHOULD feel proud of your accomplishment!!!!
Congratulations on taking your deer!!!!! I’m sure you will remember this season for the rest of your life!!!!!
Respectfully,
Donnie
I agree with Donnie.

in reply to: "The Good Hunt" links #63095Thanks Dave for stepping up for traditional bowhunting. It needs responsible representatives like you to show the world what hunting should be. Glad to help with this venture.
I have been hunting here in PA for 37 years, primarily on public land. Over that time I have seen the deer population on those lands decrease significantly (for good or bad, depending on your deer management position to which I stay neutral). I just this week lost permission to hunt a farm due to it being sold. I saw the most deer of my 37 years on that farm just because of the management of an adjacent farm. It looks as though I will be back on public ground again this season.
Last week I returned from a dyi CO elk hunt a week early. We were scheduled to hunt two weeks, but due to several factors, not of least was to many people on public grounds. Btw… we hiked in three miles and up to 9800 feet.
I have experienced success hunting on public land and I would never consider a “canned hunt” ever. Having said that, even though I would not, with todays state of hunting here in PA, I don’t blame a beginner who does. I would only hope that that person one day finds the true meaning of hunting, and it is not what they show on tv, trust me.
