I read this morning that E. Donnall Thomas, the father of our own Don Thomas, passed away at age 92. He won the Nobel prize in medicine in 1990 for pioneering bone marrow transplant.

Sympathies and prayers to the family as they mourn this huge loss.

NPR (National Public Radio) just ran a very nice rememberance of Dr. Thomas, Sr. His medical research has prolonged a great many lives, including a couple of friends of mine, and will continue to do so — that is a uniquely proud legacy.

On behalf of the whole family, thank you all for your condolences. It has been a hard time, but I consider myself lucky to have enjoyed my father’s wisdom and guidance as long as I did. No one could have asked for a better role model, in the woods or in the clinic. Best wishes and thanks to you all, Don

My heart goes out to you. Lost my father in 2006, and I know how bad it hurts, there is no replacement!

Cherish those memories, and pass them on to your kids, as I am sure you have done.

Deepest sympathies to the Thomas family, from a member of your “extended family” at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY.

Huntryx–I’d already noted your “upstate New York” address–didn’t realize it was that close to home. I have fond memories of my early childhood in Otsego Co. and following my Dad around the halls of the Basset. The one thing all the wire service obits left out is that he was the best grouse shot around, and still the best wing-shot I have ever seen. Stay in touch~! Don

Well Don, your Dad would be happy to hear that the grouse are having a peak year up here. Woodcock are spotty so far though. Take good care.
