in reply to: Hunting Practice? #11437

I would have to say, for me, it is simply going out and doing. As an example, hunting in PA where I do, mostly public land, you not only must figure out the game movement, you must figure out the hunters movement. Because hunting pressure is heavy where I hunt, you must look for the out of the way or the over-looked spots. It adds another factor to learning to hunt. Being a “10 ring shooter” or an Olympic Athlete Hunter is pointless if you are surrounded be nimrods who are not. I’m not sure if what I described is what you were asking, but I know it is a part of my year-round preparation.

I just thought I would chime in about the water repellency of the Gateway 2″ feathers. I was hunting in the spot that was to get the “spotty” shower this morning and I was very impressed with how the feathers held up in the wet conditions.

It is ironic that the same industry that promotes adding as many hunters to the ranks, is also the same one that uses celebrities who will be the only ones that will be able to afford to hunt, on the land they are buying up!!

I think you simply have to look to Europe to see where this is going to lead.

My thoughts exactly!! One of “Uncle Ted’s” favorite lines is…”You can’t do this in France!” Well guess what Ted, France is coming here and you are one of the ones bringing it on.

I am always amazed when they seem to pick the right place to have a camera when something exciting happens!! Btw… why didn’t the cameraman help the old guy out of the river when he capsized?? Lol!!

                      Hi Doc,

I’m just up the road in Lebanon and can totally relate to your experience. I have been hunting with the bow for over thirty years, mostly on PA Game Lands. I have had some success with the stick, taking the one in my pic last year not to far from the Lancaster County border. Although my trad harvests have been few and far between.

In terms of painting with a broad brush, the 80% do not distinguish the difference between what we do and that of the canned hunt crowd. We must do what we can to police our ranks or the 80% will, and take ALL of our hunting priviledges.

I like hiking the mountain areas here in Southeast PA with my Chessie Grace as well as riding bike with my wife. I’m going to start fishing again since I retired from my part-time job as well as Spring gobbler hunt.
