in reply to: Let's See Your Fletching #27481
I noticed the two fletch in that War of the Arrows movie as well.. I’m not across my Asian archery at all, but it struck me as trying to be accurate to the period.. anyone know if this is actually what Chinese and Koreans got up to?
I’m no mathemagician but my calculations suggest that 2 fletch should roughly cut your fletching time and resources by a 3rd… if it works.. why not eh?
in reply to: Greetings and Hello #26602Welcome Kris,
This is a great forum, with heaps of really great info at your fingertips by searching old posts and heaps of great guys hanging around to ask questions and be inspired by.
I hope you’ve got a subscription to TBM, it’s the ducks nuts mate. And if you get premium online membership (which is incredibly good value) you get digital access to old, sold out issues, right back from when the magazine began. I love reading those old magazines!

in reply to: Douglas Fir FluFlus #16781Steve,
I’ve got a memory that Doc Ashby told me that birch was one of the best shafts he came across for toughness, behind those forgewood shafts. Said it was a bugger to straighten though. I’d be keen to try it too, although the only source for finished shafts I’ve come across is 3rivers and they’re some kind of laminate. If you give them a go be sure to post about it!
in reply to: Question: wipe on poly #16767Follow up question for you chaps wise in the ways of wipe-on, what glue do you use for your feathers? The glue that I’ve been using for ages on my dipped shafts seems to be burning through the poly as it dries.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #14164Ralph,
Someone I’m used to seeing those hills all brown and dry.. they look great!
I got the MRI results back a couple weeks ago and see the orthopaedic surgeon on Thursday to get his opinion on surgical solutions/timelines. I was encouraged reading the latest TBM to see the story from Andersohn about his come back hunt. I daresay he overcame more arduous terrain than I’ll be dealing with in the next 6 months.

I have been doing some form shooting, trying to regain some talent after a few months of not shooting. If I’m shooting well enough by the weekend will head on down to the local club’s 3d shoot.
in reply to: outdoors/backwoodsman Class #11843I guess whenever I’ve done any instruction or helped run courses at work the first question is “what is the end state”? What do you want the students to be able to do, or to have been exposed to, at the end of the course?
If the end state is to have kids that are empowered, interested and confident enough to go out and seek their own adventures, what a wonderful course that would be!

Wow what a gift. Nice bow how is she shooting for you?
Mike she’s shooting really nice. I’m always impressed at how smooth the draws and quiet the release is.
in reply to: The War of Arrows…. Great movie! #56468This is being dredged up from the past because I just saw this movie the other day. I actually reckon it might be the best bow and arrow movie I’ve ever seen. The old Errol Flynn Robin Hood still holds a special place, but this had some outstanding shots and action.
If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favour 😉
in reply to: Traveling Case #53681Steve,
That’s a beauty, very well done.

Don’t forget to close the door… that gets me every time 😉
in reply to: Historic Examples of D/R Longbows #51682Drew, that was a neat little video. There was another on the arrow and quiver too. Thanks for sharing it mate 😀
