Can’t make silk purse out of sow’s ear, but silk stocking sure look good on calf.–Chinese fortune cookie and possibly my epitaph
in reply to: Rattlesnake Backed Bama Osage Expedition! #58482Wow, you got that back fast…and it looks GREAT! They’ll make the bow shoot straighter as well!

in reply to: The perfect April Michigan weekend, in February #28488Thanks guys. I really think that aside from a good squall or two, we’re pretty much done with the heavy winter. It’s weird because I think we are close to a normal snowfall, but it always melts within days of the storm. Bummer, LOL.
Anyway, I almost forgot to show off a tighter pic of my new purchase from Kalamazoo. I went there determined to finally purchase a new custom longbow. I shot 11 bows on Friday and Saturday. Only one bow shot/performed better than this one for me, but was 3 times (at least) more expensive. I like to think I made up for the performance difference by adding the rubber grip, LOL.
You may have heard of the bowyer responsible for my new stick, Mr. Sam Ick. Let me tell you, Mr. Ick makes a heckuva bow!
in reply to: The perfect April Michigan weekend, in February #27419Here are a few more:
My new stick and my new wool and my new shooting glove from Kzoo.
The last shot of the day on the target I hate the mostest. Turned out to be a good way to end the day…and we were able to shoot a Stormy Kromer ad besides:)
Even Sunday showed gorgeous weather. Enough so that I took the new stick out for its first foray into the rabbit missing and stump shooting biz. Rabbits-1, new stick-0. But the day offered some beautiful light.
Thanks for looking, shoot straight and see you in the woods!

in reply to: Musings from opening weekend in Michigan. #54197Thanks for the kind words guys!
Lee, I hate to be caught without a knife, so I try to stash an extra or two whenever I can. That one is a real shorty and slips right up between the rubber broadhead holder and the metal shield under the leather. Those are just Chicago screws on each side to hook the leather thong to. To polish up the installation and ensure no noise from blade to screw contact, I folded a small piece of deer rawhide and slipped it in there for a mini sheath. If you need rawhide, just pm me your address and I’ll send you a couple strips to experiment with.
Steve Sr.–see, even your analysis is insightful! Thank you for giving me yet another way to look at things. I believe your advice in another string about instinctive shooting rang true on Saturday morn. If I knew the doe turned away while I was at full draw, then I must not have had full, undivided attention on the ‘spot’. 😯
And who’da thunk, after all this time I didn’t notice my bow was backwards?!??!Bruc, you are too kind…sometimes you just can’t beat real life for the best stories!
Good luck guys!

in reply to: Interesting Waste of Time #62005Amen TrapperDave, and thanks for pointing that out, but you forgot us naked bowHUNTERS:lol:
in reply to: Interesting Waste of Time #61843Wow. Yeah, that’s crazy. I can’t believe anyone thinks they need all that modern stuff:
Fiberglas bow lams
Metal broad heads
Metal arrows?!?!
Screw-in tips
Strings that don’t stretch
Camo…what a fiasco THAT is…heck, for that matter, cloth fabric.
Boots?! Mocs are the way to go when it’s cold. Barefoot otherwise.Geez, you’re right, too easy, too quick and not much skill required anymore.
Boycott ’em all. We dont need no stinkin’ clothes! It’s all a fad and will never catch on, you’ll see.
in reply to: Grayling TBH shoot 2011 #59075Two of my favorites…check out how similar these two guys loose their arrows.
I’ll try to get more pics up later from the hand-painted 2D course.
