in reply to: Help with fletcher! #14885
Boris: my choice (hands down) for a coffee table fletcher is the Martin J-8 as shown in 3 Rivers catalog. It’ll do a half doz arrows in the course of a rainy afternoon watchin football, if i can stay awake!!!!
in reply to: what bow for long draw length #14878cbkalpine: ya better figure out if’n ya want a longbow or a recurve first. There’s a world of difference between a 64″ longbow (27-28″draw) and a 64″recurve (30-31″draw).
in reply to: A REGRESS FOR MS BOWHUNTERS #14869Kudos to SteveMcD: Ohio DNR is the same way, If they can’t sell an extra tag for it, it doesn’t count!
in reply to: Steel Force Broadheads #55817Over 75 trad guys at our club and no one uses them. I don’t see them in their current catalog.
in reply to: Shooting Gloves #55811I also shoot the Med. style. Have been using the Wyandotte closed end glove for many years with good results. I usually cut the velcro off and sew on a button! Your release style is of no concern when selecting a glove, only when choosing a bow!
in reply to: 3 Rivers Archery #52536Hey shooter, I went up 2 yrs ago. the front of store was a reception area like set-up with ck out. The rest is a warehouse where you roam around picking up what you need and lookin at lot’s of neat stuff. Shooting range was available at that time also if I remember. It’s just off of I-69 at exit 140w, then take the first left after the ramp! Heading back south to the store on your left.
in reply to: Woodie Weights #49969Bert: the breakage is very much a concern and should show up in Dave’s 45 degree deflection test.
Dan: I’ll have to see what happens with the (drop at range) experiment. Also, i can’t hardly pull my arrows out of my McKenzie deer now. That’ll probably get worse!
in reply to: WYOMING ANTELOPE / ELK #48922E Don Thomas’s book LONGBOW COUNTRY has a couple of excellent stories in it.
in reply to: Woodie Weights #48913Ya Dave, thats the kind of info I’m looking for. I’ll hafta try the 45 degree test after my 3ft. snowdrifts melt off in the spring. I shoot a 64# LB with lodgepole pine arrows at about 180fps & 575gr before the WW’s. There’s nothing heavy boned here in Ohio, but do hunt elk each year south of Granby. More doing my own testing of Dr. Ed’s suggestions than anything. I appreciate the help. Buzzard
in reply to: Woodie Weights #47091Thanks idabow, i bought a 6pk at the trad expo in k-zoo. supposed to be 100 gr but ended up with 4-100 and 2-75’s. Thats ok i guess. Got to looking at them and wondered about points coming off. Glad to hear you’ve had no problems. Thanks
in reply to: Cross hand-eye dominance #46753You’ll likely need to shoot your bow from the same side as you would shoot a shotgun!
in reply to: Tip from oldtimer?????? #40617My wife makes her dog treats by grinding up liver, mixing it with flour and garlic, into a stiff dough and baking it as a small cookie. Break off a piece for each treat/reward! I can’t give you a receipe as she does it most by feel. IE, 1 liver, ground, couple of cups flour, 1 large clove garlic, ground, knead well, add flour as needed.
in reply to: snaro points? #39325To quote my friend Woodchucker, who has 2 of them, (them’s the most worthless pieces of crap i ever used)
in reply to: Help for a rookie!?!?! #33613There is no substitute for WOODSMANSHIP. And NO, you can’t buy it at Cabelas.
in reply to: Sighting Question #33606Longarrow, I 2nd what Duncan says, starting out with consitent form means everything. There’s really only 2 ways to direct your arrow. What some people call “instinctive” and “gap or point of aim”. Instinctive shooting is similiar to throwing a baseball or football, only your shooting an arrow instead. You look where you want it to go and “shoot-throw” it there. However, for beginners it’s much easier to use the point of your arrow as a site pin and adjust the gap to the range of your target. Don’t try to make this to complicated. It’s all to much fun for that. Good Luck, Buzzard
