Martin;
I think that you may be right. I brought out my back-up Super Diablo as my now #1 bow and am keeping the tired one for my new back-up.

A club in So. Cal. that I used to belong to (Valley West Archers) had several targets such as you describe.
Rule of thumb was ‘Cant into the hillside’. Doesn’t take too much & might help.
in reply to: Outgrown Bow or Wasted Time? #146381For what it’s worth;
You might keep an eye out on EBay under ‘recurve bow’. Just might run across a Wasp in the weight range you’re interested in. If not, ………… there are a LOT of recurves on EBay and one of them might call out to you. A bows gotta have ‘the look’ before you can shoot it well and beauty, eye of the beholder, all of that. …………
Then …………………… once you get your new (to you) shooter, practice with it and once you’re warmed up, try a few shots with the 50#er, remembering form. Always form !! Then finish up with the lighter bow.
Good luck & keep us posted on how it goes.

Have you done any testing with broadheads, straight / helical fletch yet ??? I’m totally sold on straight fletch for field points but still a wee bit leery when it comes to the more important hunting heads.
in reply to: Straight Fletch Article #146164Blast from the past !!
Ran across an old Bow & Arrow magazine, March / April 1965 with a Tackle Tips column by Tom Jennings. He did some testing using a ‘Trajectrocaster’ (gotta love the names he came up with for the testing gizmos he built) shooting straight & helical fletch for distance. He was shooting about 180 fps with his set-up and getting about 180 yards distance for both types of fletch.
“In summation …………………. There is so little difference between the performance of these two types of fletching that there is no man alive who could shoot well enough to tell the difference. “
in reply to: Getting use to bow quiver. #146159Back about in the late 70s or early 80s there was a bow-quiver called the Sidewinder. Held about 8 arrows and was mounted out in front of the bow vertically. Guys would fill the arrows half up with sand and …………viola !! …… instant stabilizer.
Worked well when it was calm…………. Not so much in the wind.

I’ve got another paper plate routine where I shoot one arrow from 5 yards. If I hit the plate I move back to 10. Every time I hit the plate, I move back 5 yards. When I miss, that’s where I shoot from for a while.
One thing that I’ve learned ………………. aiming at the whole plate is a good way to miss the whole plate regardless of the distance.
Amazing what idle minds can come up with !!!!!
in reply to: Quarantine Archery Tournament #146050Got out this morning before the wind came up here.
Shot the round as outlined above, then added a bit to it.
For the second leg, I dropped the bonus shot, scoring the same as the first leg but moved back to 15-20 & 25 yards.
For the third leg, no bonus shot, still using the same scoring but moved back to 20-25 & 30 yards.
Perfect score would be 955 total……………………. I was pretty happy with a 505 for the three round total. Kind of neat to be able to have a bit of added pressure of shooting ‘for score’. It’s paper but can only help my 3D shoots.

60# Damon Howatt Super Diablo, shooting 2213s split finger. Took three warm up shots at 20 yards.
(1) 30
(2) 45
(3) 60
(4) 40
(5) 0
(6) 0
(7) 10 ………… I took a 10 point bonus snake shot @ a half card / 1 yard.
Total 185
A fun little round !!!!!
in reply to: Quarantine Archery Tournament #145908One more suggestion, if I may;
When posting scores, note ‘curve, long or self bow, poundage, arrow material and split or 3 finger under.
This is gonna be fun !!!
in reply to: Quarantine Archery Tournament #145900I like it !!!
Could I suggest adding a one arrow, one yard, down-angle snake type shot ?? Maybe at a half card. (Don’t laugh; it’s harder than it looks.)
………….and a title !!! Something subtle like Inter-National Trad-Bow Quarantine Archery Tournament Champion 2020.
Question; Starting cold or warm-up shots ?????
Edit for speling
in reply to: Quarantine Archery Tournament #145884Hey Aeronut;
Last year I was at our local public archery range doing some shooting on the practice bales. Had a couple of wheel-bow shooters watching me. One of them finally commented “I didn’t know you could do that”. I asked what, shoot without sights ?? He said no, he didn’t know that you could shoot without a RELEASE. I told him that it’s so easy that a caveman could do it.
Made my whole day !!!
>>>>>>>>>> I don’t have a printer………… How about we just shoot at that old stand-by, paper plates ???
in reply to: TBOT and Championship Shoot at Memphis, TX #145864Not happy about my favorite Az. & Calif. shoots being canceled but will spend the time working on proper form ’til I get it right.
in reply to: 2019-20 season updates #145786Part of it depends on the water the carp were taken in and how they were handled once in possession. Kinda like bear meat; there’s garbage dump bears and there’s berry patch bears………………..
