      Ok ………………… Lemme get this straight. You have a set-up that shoots “very very well”.

      Sounds good to me; Shoot it !!!

      I have never bought into the concept of target bow / hunting bow.  I hunt. Ergo, I shoot a hunting bow. 3D, roving, field round or American Round it’s all just practice for hunting.

      Now, if your main interest is tournaments, my suggestion would be something that shoots very very well and work on form in the morning, form in the evening and form at supper-time.

      We tend to make this a lot more complicated than it needs to be.

        Well …………………. I made the thing about 4 foot by four foot on three sides with the front open.  Should have put re-bar down the centers of the compost blocks as everything spread out a bit as I added sand.  (Takes a LOT of sand).  Got everything braced up and am quite happy with the result. I can shoot my 3D targets and step over and let a couple of broadheads fly.

        Since it’s sifted beach type sand from a sand wash I can shoot my actual hunting arrows a couple of times, put the file to them and good to go with a quiver full of arrows that I KNOW fly true.

          More quail ……………… less rabbits.

          Some kind of rabbit killer bug going around. Found 6 dead jacks and a dead cottontail the last time I did a little roving / hiking / scouting.

            Greetings from South Eastern Arizona.

            My go-to arrow is the Easton 2213.  Very versatile shaft size that will work well in the mid 50# to upper 60# range.

            I get ’em on E Bay.

              Web site’s back up but nothing about hunting.

              Kind of disappointed ……………… still looking for a ‘hunt’ not a ‘canned kill’.

                    Right now I have the brace height on the Mag 48 at 8 & 1/8th. It’s not ‘quite’ as fast as my Super Diablo, but it’s close.  Fun bow ………….. glad I got it !!!

                      Laura, and All;

                      I picked up a book on eBay, “Shooting The Stickbow” by Anthony Camera. Have not had the chance to read it page by page but have thumbed thru it a couple of times and am very impressed.  Seems to be a very well written reference manual that covers just about everything stickbow.

                      A fine book, well worth the coin. !!!!  I recommend  it highly.

                        Just to be clear, the 10 & 1/2 inch brace height was the string that came with the bow. The 3 Rivers guy suggested 7 & 1/2 to 8 & 1/2.  It’s shooting well at 8 & 1/8 but I still want to try somewhere about 7 & 3/4 just to see what happens.

                          Ralph;

                          I can’t wait to try that. !!!!  I tend to do that ‘target acquired, shoot’ thing back around my point on distance and beyond.  Thanx !!!

                          Not too sure about that chart.  I just had a Bear Mag. 48″ arrive. According to the chart I should be drawing about 15 inches ???

                          FWIW; I’ve only shot the Bear 48 a bit after making a call to the expert dude at 3 Rivers to find out what the brace height should be and making a new string. (The 10 1/2 ” brace height seemed to be a wee bit excessive.) .  Still getting to know my Lil’ Buddy but I gotta say ………….. the thing’s flat out fun to shoot.

                            Martin;

                            I think that you may be right. I brought out my back-up Super Diablo as my now #1 bow and am keeping the tired one for my new back-up.

                              Jerry;

                              A club in So. Cal. that I used to belong to (Valley West Archers) had several targets such as you describe.

                              Rule of thumb was ‘Cant into the hillside’.   Doesn’t take too much & might help.

                                For what it’s worth;

                                You might keep an eye out on EBay under ‘recurve bow’.  Just might run across a Wasp in the weight range you’re interested in.  If not, ………… there are a LOT of recurves on EBay and one of them might call out to you.  A bows gotta have ‘the look’ before you can shoot it well and beauty, eye of the beholder, all of that. …………

                                Then …………………… once you get your new (to you) shooter, practice with it and once you’re warmed up, try a few shots with the 50#er, remembering form. Always form !! Then finish up with the lighter bow.

                                Good luck & keep us posted on how it goes.

                                  Ray;

                                  Have you done any testing with broadheads, straight / helical fletch yet ???  I’m totally sold on straight fletch for field points but still a wee bit leery when it comes to the more important hunting heads.
