Home Sweet Home: Picking a Backcountry Camp Site

I have no idea how many nights I’ve spent camped out in the field, but it’s a lot. Most of them were pleasant and highly enjoyable, either because I was engaged in exciting hunting or fishing nearby or simply because my surroundings were free of the noise and clutter of daily life closer [...]

Halloween Reversal

The air was still, and the oak leaves were fringed with frost. The moon overhead lit up the woods, and the shadows created an eerie feeling that fit the season. I paused for a moment at a fork in the trail. I glanced to the south, and like a good friend that’s always [...]

Laced Up and Socked In

So, you got that new pair of boots and they seem great, but then what? This question may seem arbitrary, or even asinine, but it definitely holds merit. There are a couple of details when it comes to the realm of boots, that I feel might be overlooked, or just isn’t a hot [...]

The First Rule: Hunt Where the Deer Are

"Why do we keep driving to the top of the mountain?” my husband and hunting buddy Bob asked. “I don’t know,” I answered. “Look at all these muddy deer trails coming off the bank right along the hard road.” Our drives every day from our campground in north-central Pennsylvania’s Little Pine Creek valley, [...]

Glenn St. Charles 12/15/1911 to 9/19/2010

A great man and traditional bowhunting legend passed away on Sunday morning surrounded by his family. His tireless, continuing efforts brought bowhunting out of the back woods and into the main offices of fish and game departments all across the United States. Without a doubt, his ideas and life's work is why we have the privilege to enjoy the liberal bowhunting seasons we enjoy today. Glenn St. Charles was the last of the true bowhunting pioneers in North America.
