in reply to: Muzzy Phantom 4 Blade #9344DK wrote: I killed a turkey a few years ago with one and it broke when I pulled it out of a piece of oak it was stuck in. I am sure it won’t fail most of the time but I think you could do better. I think four blade is a good idea for bears though. I hear they don’t bleed a lot.

When I went on a black bear hunt 2 years ago with an archery shop I was the only trad hunter among compound and crossbow guys. We had a 90% kill/recovery. Most of those guys used 4 blade heads of some type and had very small blood trails. I on the other hand used a 2 blade and a huge blood trail. Keep in mid these guys were shooting 370-425 grain avg arrow weight with 4 blade steep angle heads. My set up was around 560 and 2 blade. Just my observation. I will be using 2 blades the rest of my hunting life. By the way, I have a brand new set of Phantom heads if anyone is looking for some…8)
in reply to: Getting back into it #9259That will prob work. Just play with point weight till they fly good and have fun. 5″ feathers will be a tad more forgiving for a new shooter. Just my opinion.8)
in reply to: Getting back into it #38283SpongeBob, Have fun. Enjoy the time with your daughter.
My advise right now, shoot and have fun.
Get some 500 spine carbon arrows, fletch them with some 5″ trad cut feathers and play with point weight till they fly good. You can get more picky with your set up later.
Don’t be afraid to post questions on here. The guys on here are good dudes and lots of experience. YouTube is a good source for videos as well.8)
in reply to: Elk vs. Arrow Penetration?? #38211Good thread and advise guys!
Alex, your right, leave the “trajectory” for the compound guys.
Just get a set up you like, and shoot at all distances. Your brain/body will learn the rest. And have fun!8)
in reply to: Best target #10124Best target….rotten stumps!8)
in reply to: The Trade-Off #10115I guess the question I have is, Are you a bow hunter or a 3d shooter?
I am a bow hunter. I shoot 3d for practice and fun. All my set ups are for hunting. I rarely shoot over 20 yards. 8)
in reply to: My kives ( I forged at home ) #41723Very nice! Like bows, I have a love for the blade
I am trying my hand at my first knife, although, I bought the blade.8)
in reply to: Longbow speed #41529Holy crap balls!!
That is one hell of a weapon!
100# bow and a 800g arrow. 180fps!
You better get to Africa soon and hunt a Cape buffalo.8)
in reply to: Take-down Longbow and Recurve laminations? #56192Not sure I follow. Hopefully Greg or someone will chime in. But, .030 is pretty common for finish veneer. .024 should be fine under clear glass. Keep in mind, every bit of thickness adds to the draw weight of the limbs,so take into account your finish veneer.8)
in reply to: Take-down Longbow and Recurve laminations? #54992I am by far not a seasoned Boyer, but, my experience in shooting and building a couple bows is….
Skinnier tips, and a dense riser wood keep bow soft in the hand. Sometimes quieter as well.
I am a fan of phenolic, walnut, maple, kingwood, and wenge in the riser.
Now, as for smoothness…that is a total bow design IMHO.
Hope this helps.8)
