in reply to: Getting in shape #49152
I hit the weight room all year and cycle through endurance and strength building (squats, presses, pull ups etc)rotations. I also swim and ride my bikes. 90 days before opening day I start to add in hikes that are increasingly diffucult.
in reply to: best fletching jig? #49149in reply to: split vs three finger #13094Yes sir I have been following his recommended methods. I have also tuned my longbows (2) to shot spot on – !
in reply to: split vs three finger #12457I have improved my shooting consistancy by shooting 3 under.
I now draw 3 under and anchor my thumb knuckle under my ear lobe. I get a full draw this way and can use back pressure.
I was shooting way to fast in the past, Now I can get a 2/3 sec delay before release.
I also do not shoot groups. After each arrow I move someplace else to get a different target angle.
in reply to: What Kind if Winter Have You Had? #51011Very mild in Western Oregon and unusually dry. We did not have our usual ice storms either. Lookin good for all game species.
78 degrees yesterday near Portland, Oregon.
in reply to: Hunting footwear #39368in reply to: wool or camo? #39365I usually wear wool plaids that I often buy at the resale shops. Early season I do have some short and L/S camo Tshirts.
in reply to: How many bows do you have? #39357I recently sold my Howatts and a compound bow I shot sans sights with fingers. I now have two longbows; a 62″ and a 64″
in reply to: What broadheads do you like? #39350Magnus two blade 140 grain.
Keeping fit is high on my todo list. I believe it slows the aging process a wee bit. A friend and I drop camp hunted an OTC unit in Colorado this year. Our tent was at 11,000 ft. We hunted up higher every day for 10 days. We did kill 1 elk. I’m Medicare eligible. Exercise as if your life depended on it!
in reply to: Aluminum Arrows #51482Yep aluminum works fine. I shoot 2016 or 2018s and have found them very durable and long lived. Easy to cut and fletch. Price per dozen is decent.
in reply to: Ground Blinds #60767I like to find a natural looking hide in an area elk use to cross drainages and then brush it up a little more. I leave an opening for a shooting lane. The wind direction determines when I will use them. Although we have never killed a big bull from a blind we have killed a few spikes and cows. Also we do not call from within these blinds.
in reply to: hunting feathers #25893Gateway 5 inch parabolic left wing.

I think you were in Washington Park. There is a big range near the zoo and rose garden.
wahoo wrote: Man your lucky. The last time I was in Portland I was impressed by the simple fact there was a range at the park I was walking. I tried to get one in Idaho where I live and they looked at me like a tree full of owls.I shoot in my own yard and some folks say I can’t but the police say I can. I have always liked Portland and here is one good reason why.
