in reply to: So I got a ghillie #51367
Dr. Ed Ashby wrote: Try making a small bag, just large enough to stretch over your binoculars, out of mesh material and then tying threads of various color yarns to the mesh; much like a Gillie suit for your binoculars. This makes great camo for binoculars, with no risk of damaging them. On some models of binoculars you may have to cut a small opening to reach the focus adjustment knob(s).

Great tips! Also remember when you set up that cover behind you is extremely important for the effectiveness.
Here is a pic of me with some cover behind:
This was taken just before that pic in the relative open:
Yes, I have made a cover for my back quiver since:lol:

in reply to: Longbows and demon birds from hades #52941Great job!
It is year number 6 for me on public land with no blind….maybe one day I can feel how you feel right now!
Going to try again this weekend. Maybe!?!?!?!
Awesome achievement!

I made a set of 3 from Red Oak once. They were fine arrows and a nice heavy weight. They were also tough and stayed relatively straight. Finding a decent board with no runout is the hard part with oak.
in reply to: Bow Building 101 – Osage Selfbow Part 1 #36585This is awesome! I have two Osage splits curing in my basement and these vids will come in handy. Can’t wait for the next one!

in reply to: Anybody Shoot Howard Hills? #36350There is nothing else like shooting the straight limbed American Longbow8)
in reply to: Anybody Shoot Howard Hills? #36157I have handled the Montana (though not shot one). I can tell you the handle on a Hill is MUCH different than the blocky feel of the Montana. Especially with a srtaight grip Hill. I also own a mild R/D Sky longbow and there is a distinct different feel between the unloading on the limbs of that bow vs the straight limbed Hill.
Not as extreme a difference as between a Longbow vs recurve…..but still a difference.
in reply to: Anybody Shoot Howard Hills? #35259I shoot a plane-jane 63@29 Big-Five. I am looking for a TD in my future though…
Sweet Bow 3blades.
I think I will stick with the hill style. It is just too stable and forgiving for my poor form:lol:
Colorado elk will be in trouble this year:twisted:
in reply to: It's getting CLOSE! #35254Warm weather has us all greened up and mosquito and ticked up here already in MD. The season will be challenging but I can’t wait! I have heard reports of hens already on eggs.
Be chasing them with a Hill and ghillie suit!
in reply to: DIY mount… #23910This is not the best pic. but this is my first nice buck since I began bowhunting in the early 80s (lots of does and some bad buck luck). Anyway, I just took a rasp to a peice of black walnut board, used some self adhesive green felt and some gold braided rope from the hobby store, and a wood screw.
in reply to: Should Traditional bowhunting be more mainstream? #28581Mainstream means popular…..unfortunately hard work, dedication, self sacrifice, and self control are not popular concepts nowadays…very sad but true.
in reply to: Who is your bowhunting hero and why? #28150Fred Bear….because he missed a lot like I do but still managed to get lucky with the big ones. Plus I love those old movies!
I also like Hill becasue he didn’t miss a lot 🙂
in reply to: Moose scouting pics… #19088Awesome pics! I have a bow just like yours and will be chasing Elk in Sept. with it!:D
in reply to: Bow Season vs. Crossbows #10971I will also let you all know how it goes this year.
