Wow, a great moderator and a mind reader!
George, may I use this for a Tip of the Week? There’s a hat in it for you. Oh, I’d better send Smithhammer’s hat today! π³ You guys are the best!
in reply to: Darton Super Flite Hunter #30784Hi scout200,
I think everyone is out camping this week! Someone might be along who can answer your question. In the meantime, you might try calling Kustom King or 3 Rivers Archery to see if they can help you on string length and hopefully brace height.
in reply to: Hoyt Dorado #30779Hi Zulk,
Welcome to the site. I was hoping someone would come along sooner and help you out. This is such a general question that it is hard to answer. You might search through old threads about Black Widow and get a feel for what other members think. And hopefully someone who shoots either of these bows will share their opinion.
Am I that predictable? I am always happy to help, but sometimes it is in two hours and sometimes it is two days before I see the post. π³
You are in luck. Dick Robertson wrote an article Knapping 101 in the Dec/Jan 2005 issue. We have it in digital format because it is a sold out issue, so I have made it available in the Download Library under Knapping 101. It is available to all members.
Jim, we also have a TBM Index in the Download Library that lists all the articles we have published. You can search for flint-knapping and bow building articles. Both subjects are often too detailed to cover in a short article so I would also check your favorite traditional supplier for books or videos.
Good luck,
in reply to: BROADHEADS #18497Hi deisel4bt. I can’t help with the broadhead question but I wanted to a.) thank you for your service to our country, and b.) welcome you to Tradbow.com. Hopefully, the friends you make here will help pass the time when you can get on the computer. Stay safe.
What kind of glass are you referring to?
in reply to: Flemish strings #18017Codger…are you left handed? It makes a difference in how the serving is put on. Larry Fischer covered this in a Tip of the Week called Coming Unraveled. T.J.’s book also gives instructions on serving strings after you build them. It’s a great book, but I’m kinda partial to the guy. π
Hope this helps.

Dang, Dave. Do I need to find a dictionary for the site? π―
in reply to: Building up to heavy draw weight #8882You are welcome. I’m glad to help when I can.
I also appreciate that our posts don’t often go off the deep end, and I have to thank David Petersen for his diligent and friendly moderating on these forums. We couldn’t do it without him! And I have to thank all of you for being mature if and when you disagree. Keep up the good work! π
in reply to: Happy Birthday Dave… #8537I will add my Happy Birthday wishes as well. I hope it’s a GREAT day for you. π
in reply to: Bow-ready in 8 weeks article #63811Hi Red Dwarf. The article in the Jun/Jul issue was supposed to tell our readers that Part 2 would be in the Aug/Sep issue. That issue will be online June 15 and in subscriber’s mailboxes by June 30. I agree that it cuts it a bit close as far as hunting season goes. If you have done the program for 6 or 7 weeks you are probably “close enough” for hunting.
I also posted an old article by Don Thomas about Gearing Up for Heavy Bows that might help you get started on a workout program to increase your bow weight.
After the Aug/Sep issue is on the web site, I can make this article available to those who want it right away. Just remind me π
in reply to: Favorite turkey slate call? #63791Aeronut did a great (as usual) build-along earlier this year on making a turkey call. Check it out.
I think it’s interesting that Capncook used a ready-made pot and made the slate the hard way. Aeronut made the pot the hard way and used a ready-made slate. Combine the two for the ultimate DIY turkey call. π
in reply to: DIY Bow Stringer #63042Here is the one that Kustom King Traditional Archery sells: Limbsaver Longbow Stringer. It does still have a cup on one end. I’m sure that other suppliers carry them as well. I hope that helps.
in reply to: DIY Bow Stringer #62820Hi Swamprat. Have you tried the stringers that have a cup on one end and a rubber piece that goes on the limb? They are available through most every trad archery supplier. If anyone has instructions to make one of these I’d be interested in the plans for a Tip of the Week. π
in reply to: Beavertail longbow grip! #61723Very nice! π
in reply to: Building up to heavy draw weight #60530The article Gearing Up for Heavy Bows has been posted in the Feature Article section. It is followed by a short article called Sand Bag Training by Mark Viehweg that I thought might also be useful. Enjoy.
