I got a old hot tub cover and then use it like an A-frame target and it stops my heavy arrows from my 70# longbow. works great. also i will hang the bulap bag stuffed with suran-wrap on it for extra stoping power.
Ephisians 2:8-9 For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of youselves, it is the gift of God, not as a result of works so no one may boast.
in reply to: Small Game #38082thanks for the viedo well done for just spair time.
in reply to: Heavy Bows – Are they now a part of our past #51818I shoot a 70Lb Bighorn Ramhunter longbow. Mostly because God gave me strong sholder and back, and I’m 25 so that might change in the futrue, but Howard hill shot 70lb bows when he was old. I like the heavy bow because on an elk it sure does the trick one shoulder hits (not the best shot but sometimes happen).
When i got that bow the guy that taught me to shoot (in his late 60) scoffed at me and said that was way to much. But later on he told me a story about how he shot a mulley doe with is 37lb recurve and had a perfict heart shot and got her but the next year he shot another doe and hit her in the shoulder blade and the arrow bounced out and did not hardly harm her. I don’t know what arrows he was using but asume they were ceader with bear heads (what he usally shot back then). So heavy bows and arrow set up is not all gone and do think that it has a place with bigger anamals like elk, bear and moose.Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God not as a result of works so no one may boast.
in reply to: Ideal Broadhead weight #48832Im a beliver of the heavy broad head. i shoot about 300 gr and with a grizzly el grande single bevel and achieved total pentration of a bull elk (including the off side shoulder). heavy up front is the way to go. but you do need to have stiffer spine than you usally need.
in reply to: NRA pros and cons #39813the NRA does an overall good job at protecting our gun rights that are give to us in the consitution. I do wish that they would stop sending so much mail!
in reply to: The Good, The Bad, and The Really, REALLY UGLY. #34034i do think it is time to pack some heat, just for protection. I don’t konw the laws in IL but here in Colorado we have the make my day law which allows you to protect yourself in your home or anytime you feel thretened. this is not a threat or an encouragement to hurt someone, but I will stop at nothen to protect my family.
I made a side draw quiver that is simular to the safari quiver that 3rivers archery sells but it is leather. I realy like it. I’ve used bow and back but they both have the down fall of exposed feathers which make noise and can mess up the feathers. the other disadviag of bow quiver is it throws the bow off balance. Some like the weight but i don’t. you will probable find as meny differnt quivers as there are bow hunters. Trial and error is the name of the game.
in reply to: Making arrows out of dowels #22575I make my own arrows out of oak and popar dowels from the hard ware store. I buy the 3/8 in and have to sort through them all to find the straght ones. most times only end up with 10 out of 100. They work great for me, but i shoot a 75 pound longbow. and the 23/64 points work on them. saves alot of money and they shoot great.
