in reply to: Brass insert preventing failure? #35975
I read some info from another person who said that they use a slow set epoxy and when installing the brass insert they coat the inside of the carbon shaft further back than the length of the insert so when the insert is placed in the shaft a tapered amount of epoxy forms just past the place where the insert ends in the shaft. It was reported that greatly increases the strength of the arrow shaft compared to just putting the epoxy to coat just the length of the insert. The author said that he did extensive testing by hitting angle iron with the arrows. He even cut away the arrow shaft to confirm that the epoxy did indeed created a taper on the inside of the shaft. Next best thing to internal footing.

in reply to: Gonna mozy over to the Libary #18565I used to watch the shows more than I do now. I think the more we know and learn the less beneficial the shows are to us IMHO. I am going out to practice.
in reply to: EFoc and Carbon Arrows #18066Just for the hec of it I took out my other arrows, CX Predator II arrows with 145 field tips up front and spined 0.600. Felt like I was shooting tooth pics compared to my GT expedition hunters with 100 gr brass inserts and 300 gr field tips.
in reply to: 40 # recurve and Ultra-EFOC arrow search #17809I am finished. My brace ht is 8 1/8 and arrow nock is 1/2 above level. It would have been easier if I had known the brace ht range of the bow. But they are flying straight now. I am set for sure. Thanks for all your help everyone.

in reply to: Eclipse Broadheads #15776Yes Wade. The single blade bh turns as it goes through bone and vitals. Makes sense that it started out verticle and ended up turning horizontal.

in reply to: 40 # recurve and Ultra-EFOC arrow search #12116Found out what was happening that was preventing me from making this work.
The brace ht was way off. I had it set way too low which affected my arrow flight. I started with the brace ht at about 6 7/8 from string to deepest point of bow grip. I started by twisting the string three turns to increase the brace height. Then shooting four bare shaft arrows.
Gold Tip Expedition Hunters 3555, spine 0.500, 7.4 gpi, 30″ arrows with 100 gr brass inserts and 300 gr field points. No fletching, just bare shafts.
As I progressed the arrow flight improved until now at 7.5 in brace ht the arrows are no longer kicking left. They are starting to fly straight. As I continued to increase the brace ht some of the arrows started kicking nock right which for this lefty indicates a weak arrow. I had to stop the brace ht adjusting as I had to go to work. I am not completely stable with good form so I will have to take that into consideration. But I am really excited that I found out what I was doing wrong. Probably would have saved a lot of time if I had a good traditional coach.
I appreciate all the help I am getting from all of you and I hope this is helping other newbies by following my mistakes.:D

in reply to: Bowyers: Brace Height Question #8188My old recurve does not have recommended brace ht on it. Indian Archery does not exist any more. Always not sure if my brace ht is within the recommended range because I do not know what that range is on my bow. I wish my bow had it marked.
