in reply to: The ugly underbelly of "preserve" "hunting" #29712
Yeah, one of these guys went to Canada and shot a 190″ buck inside some fenced area. Selectively bred, I’m sure. I find a wild 90 pound spike much more interesting, honest, and important.
in reply to: The ugly underbelly of "preserve" "hunting" #29680I’ve had the displeasure of meeting a few people who have hunted (and defended) high-fence areas. I walked away each time feeling like I needed to wash my hands, or even bathe.
in reply to: Four new bows for friends… #28467Very nice work. Your pals will be honored!
in reply to: 2013 hunting rigs #24268Good looking rigs, gentlemen. Alex, I really like those lodgepole arrows, and the artwork on the crests.
in reply to: Dirty Old Hats #24261I have trouble letting things go.
in reply to: Dirty Old Hats #23884Here’s Old Lucky. Note worn out turkey feather in the crown, and bill held on by safety pin. My tradition for years was to re-camo it prior to each turkey season with a sharpie. I love this hat.
in reply to: What ya got goin? #23769Glad to see you got some cane, Ben. How’s it working for ya? Was working on some yesterday too. I’ll be cutting another batch this fall, lemme know if you want any.
in reply to: Holy Moly! An uneven new bow. #23107Surprised that one left the shop unless something gradually went wrong during transit, etc.
in reply to: What is Traditional Archery? #23106Not quite answering what you’re asking, but at least your shop has some traditional archery supplies. Went in the local shop here in my little town today….asked the dude at the archery counter if they made or stocked flemish twist strings for trad archery. He looked kinda bewildered and said, “Naw…..but we can put it on for you if you got one”.
Gee……thanks, pal.

YES. Can’t wait.
in reply to: Cold Shots #20514That first shot is the most important to me. I only practice with one arrow. I usually just walk around the house shooting at pine cones, etc from various ranges. Sometimes shoot at my old 3d target that’s minus a head. When my first shot is off it tells me I need to work on a few things to get back in the zone.
I also do like Steve, and periodically draw my bow while hunting….especially if in colder weather.
in reply to: Copperheads! #57226Duncan, that looks fantastic. What did the weight come down to? Only hope mine turns out half as well. What’d you use over those skins?
in reply to: Just playing the waiting game now #54421How’d it turn out, Duncan? Post a picture!
in reply to: Ancient crafts #52811Enjoyed that, Jim. Thanks for posting it. “Primitive minded”….my wife would agree, though she sometimes calls me worse.
A friend of mine from Tasmania spent the last several years teaching at a school in Derby. Seems to be a pretty wild place…..is that the area the couple you mentioned were from?
