When I lived in Pa., hunting whitetails, I tied 1/4″ rope from the animal to the ends of the riser of my longbow and pulled with that. During gun season I tied it to my shotgun(shotgun slug only area). Action open of course.I either pulled with two hands behind me or on top my shoulders with my arms over top pressing it to my neck. Flame on!!!
These were only short distances, never more than 1/4 mile and usually only a couple hundred yards, if that. Now in Colorado I quarter or bone out for a much longer trip, usually a few miles to base camp.

in reply to: Can I get a recommendation? #30731ThAnks to all for the recommendations. I got some Terramar merino wool base layers for $20 each piece on close out at local Sierra Trading Post. It is advertised as a mid weight, but feels the same thickness as a 150-175 that they sell.
in reply to: Could this be the best knife sharpener ever? #30566I also use a folding diamond rod in the field, and it works great. Maybe I should re-title this thread to “could this be the best emergency knife sharpener ever?”
in reply to: Bear Kodiak Magnum #24234Here is a thread at another traditional forum. Many folks shooting over 28″ with a kmag. One guy with a 31″ draw.

in reply to: Bear Kodiak Magnum #23871I’ve shot a kmag that’s my daughters as well as several others. These bows are notably smooth and would be suitable for longer draw lengths. It’s a characteristic of some of the shorter bows from 60’s-70’s. The draw length written on most bows is indicated in 28″ because that’s the AMO standard and has no relation to the length it can be drawn. Expect 3 lbs per inch increase in weight for every inch drawn over 28.
Fyi, a friend uses her kmag sometimes and he draws 30″ and likes to shoot it cuz it handles so well.
in reply to: Can I get a recommendation? #19626I found a great closeout deal on some merino wool stuff, 175 thickness. Do you guys like a loose fit, or a form fit?

in reply to: New Bow!!!! #14841Mike, the bow quiver holds my broadhead arrows, I always practice with it on. The back quiver holds field tips and flu flus for practice.
My daughters elk hunt came during the polar vortex last month. Temps were -20 with high winds. She chose not to go, but now has some good cold weather gear.
Wojo, the bowyer…. Maddog bows, is from Idaho. They have a website. Google them.
in reply to: New Bow!!!! #13824Broadhead tuning today at 25 yards. 1st pic coming to full draw.
2nd pic broadhead arrow lowest of group. After many iterations with nockset height, left it here. Brace height ~6 3/4″, Nockset 1/2″ high
in reply to: New Bow!!!! #13667The lams are exactly as you said 2+ the glass.
My opinion is it is “best in class” in the compact/lightweight bow category. It points really well. I’m sure the added mass of the bow quiver helps alot with that. Will gonna try to get out to broadhead tune today.
So far I am :D:P:lol:8)
