in reply to: Where is your anchor? #31114
I have a high anchor, I shoot split finger with the middle anchor finger inside the nose crease, essentially cock feather to the side of my nose. I have long thin facial features and this consistently gets my dominant eye aligned directly over the arrow shaft.
in reply to: Where do you stand? #11787I remember on another site, someone stated, “when I really want to eat, I take out my gun!”. LOL! For me nothing could be further from the truth. When I really want to hunt, I take out my Longbow. Truth is although I was an Army Sharpshooter when I was young
I am more competent with my Longbow.
in reply to: Road trip with Elkheart #11780Very glad to hear you gents had a great time! Also very glad to know Dave is coping as to be expected and getting out and about. God Bless.
in reply to: Most Embarassing Shot Anyone? #49236LOL! Yup! Live and Learn. What I did learn over the years, was to blend in and pay attention to not only the wind but thermals as well.
in reply to: Most Embarassing Shot Anyone? #49184I tried hunting from a tree stand ONCE. Way back when the only kind were the ones you built. Never having an archery mentor. Everything was trial and error, except for what I could pick up from books and magazines. To make along story short, it never occurred to me to practice shooting from a elevated stand.Opening day of deer season 10; 30 AM a wide 6 point and three does had passed
and all my arrows are stuck in the ground 20 to 25 yards in front of me! Boy did I feel stupid!
Experience is a hard teacher
in reply to: Iowa has a wolf! Oops, had a wolf. #14460I don’t know. My feelings about predators are pretty much the same as David’s. And I’ve been blasted on other forums for it, as well. Not to sound holier than thou, but most game laws in most states indicate that “All Wildlife is Protected”, unless specified otherwise under unprotected species. .
As Hunters we are responsible to “positively identify” what we are shooting at. Malicious.. of course I don’t think so either, but every hunting season there are a lot of tragic “honest mistakes”. To quote one of our TBM Contributors, Reg Darling, “I have taken few shots that I have regretted, but I have never regretted not taking a shot”
Reminds me of a funny story though I heard as a volunteer for our state game department for over 20 years. A gentlemen came into the deer check station to have his deer checked, as required by law back then, his tags were all properly filled out. nothing wrong at all. Except, the Game Warden asked the gentlemen, do you remember exactly WHERE you shot this animal? And the gentleman said oh yes! This is my first deer ever! I will never forget it! Well, it was BROWN and had two horns. The Game Warden replied< Good! Now we have to go back and explain to the farmer, why you shot his goat.
in reply to: Caroline & David Petersen #30011I am very sorry to read about this. My apologies for being away, and not seeing this sooner! My prayers go out to Caroline and David, in this time of need. May God give you both His Good Graces and Strength.
in reply to: What to do with turkey legs :) #9923I like what Mike was able to do with them. And yes, the pic’s say it all.
I find wild turkey legs something of a disappointment, but it gave me an idea…. can always use them in the crab traps for catching Blue and Softshell crabs! :shock:8)
in reply to: Spring fever #9846David, Col. Mike.. Thank you both as well! Good to be back! 8)
in reply to: What to do with turkey legs :) #9840Good stuff right there!
in reply to: Green and white fiberglass bows? #9838There were quite a few. I had Ben Pearson Locksley all glass green & white bow that was 45# @ 28. I gave it away to someone looking for a youth bow. It was a pretty cool bow. A real work horse.
in reply to: New Traditional Archery #9832Welcome to Traditional Archery! I have no Shooting Trophies or Resume to stand on. Just several decades of experience. Ditto.. what everyone said. Just 3 tips.. 1) Focus on your form first, if your form is on, the bow will take care of the rest, 2) it’s very easy to make this stuff complex and there really is no need to be, and 3) Have fun! 8)
in reply to: Spring fever #59729Impressive Antlers R2.
Yes.. for us.. one of the snowiest and coldest winters in a long time. I’m done.. ready for my sandals and the Sea!

Think not perhaps, eh!
Might not be a bad idea! I’m NOT ALLOWED to Paint Inside!! 😆
in reply to: Spring fever #59448Fallguy wrote: Welcome back Steve. I have found that a extended layoff has helped my shooting. The first 3 shot’s are perfect then with practice the bad habits reappeared.:P
Hahaha,, Thanks, Fallguy! Glad to be getting back to normality (whatever that is!).
After 40 years of shooting I’ve learned one thing about it. We tend to think too much when we shoot! Like Eli Wallach (as “Tuco”) in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, says.. “Don’t Think! Just Shoot!”. 😆
