in reply to: Share a Tip #14094When hunting whitetails ALWAYS cover the face and hands. I use camo paint in the early season, and camo gloves and a face mask in the later season. If you are going to use gloves and a face mask make sure you practice shooting with them on as well.
Always take a compass reading when first heading out – fog, injury, fever, mild hypothermia and weather can all disorient your bearings and you just never know.
Great Post, Duncan!
in reply to: Wood Arrows & Removing Nocks: Lesson Learned #11283Nothing beats super glue Loctite. Respectfully.. Gorilla Glue stinks.. strong yes.. but as a poly glue it foams up a lot, which is definitely NOT good.

What advertizing company? Apparrently none of them. Today’s hunter believes that if spending an extra few dollars will increase their succees at killing a deer. They will spend the money no matter what. And the fact is.. They Do! “A fool and his money are soon parted.”
I believe these companies have tried unsuccessfully in the past to patent their claims and have failed thus far.
It’s really more about common sense. Wash clothing in odor free detergent. Keep clean. And hunt the wind!

in reply to: What happened? Slump! #63178I’m not too sure about the “too much intense shooting at once” theory. True.. one thing that we do badly in human nature is perfect repetition – it is difficult at best. But, what is “too much”? 30 arrows? 60 arrows? 100 arrows? An NFAA 300 round is 60 arrows.
An archer is only as good as their practice. However, to say I shot 12 good arrows and walk away “delighted” with myself, would be a false impression.
There are two parts to practice – firstly form, yes up front close bale work. Concentration on the components of form only. Part Two is accuracy. Form must be there first, then the bridge to short and longer range accuracy.
My personal thought has always been, if the form is there the bow will take care of the rest.

in reply to: Tree saddle anyone? #56636For the money they want.. you’d be better off buying a summit climber. I am told you have to be pretty phyical to use the tree saddle since you’re essentially lift your own weight up the tree, without the leverage or benefit of a tree climber.
