I am not surprised either. And grateful to be a Traditional Bowhunter.

Years ago.. we all subscribed to Herter’s and Cabela’s and Gander Mountain…. because they were strictly mail order and you could get a decent break on quality outdoor gear. And in many cases (such as Herter’s – now out of business – sadly, sniff), the only resource available to find many things you needed. Now the Big Three – Cabela’s, Gander Mountain and Bass Pro have over extended their overhead. More stores, more inventory, greater logistics challenges and of course, advertisement and “celebrity” overhead. So the product mark up is insane. 🙄

Do you really need to pay 150 dollars for a pair of pants!!!:lol::P

I refuse to buy from them anymore. 8)

There is a lot of merit to that. Provided there is Pine where you are hunting. There was an article a while back in TBM about home remedy scent elimination using the flora of your local hunting area. Makes sense. No pun intended. I am also beginning to think deer are getting wise to the scent of rubber boots too. So keep ’em clean and spray them down as well.

You measure from string groove to string groove and subtract 3 inches for a longbow and 4 inches for a recurve.

              Here is the AMO Standard:

A Traditional bow is measured from string groove to string groove around the curve of the bows limbs, not directly from tip to tip. This measurement does not go into the curve of the handle but across the face of the bow limbs from string groove to string grove. This will give you the approximate length of the bow.

TBM is the only Hunting Magazine I subscribe too! For the obvious reasons… Quality, Quality and more Quality. And not jam packed with the latest Rage and Carnage and article whose primary purpose is to endorse their sponsors.

After reading Nathan Andersen, Sterling Holbrook and G. Fred last night, when I got up out of my reading chair, although it was bedtime… my heart was reaching for the Bow Rack and my pack!

Hi, Duncan.. I agree. Folks need to understand that many animals smell like we hear. You can observe this just walking your dog. They read many scents all at once, and then break them apart as to what they are smelling. Kind of like listening to an orchestra, and picking out the different sounds of the instruments.

I found found as long as you know where the deer are going to be. The best scent is no scent. And yes, I do use a scent elimination spray, but that is no substitute for being clean and clean clothing and footwear either. I keep my hunting clothes in a foot locker to minimize scent as much as possible.

I also carry Honey drops for my breath. Sorry I refuse to even consider “GUM-O-FLUAGE” LOL!!! 😆

ReadyHawk… the Gillie Poncho sounds cool! I am not immune to trying scents in the past. Experimentation is not a bad thing. I guess like anything else – use in moderation. I tried one of those locally famous doe urine scents in the early season several years back. A doe did come directly to it, tip toeing in – on full alert I might add. She sniffed the scent placed in drops on a log… and then spooked. It was a scent from a deer supposedly yes. But, not any deer she recognized from the local herd and she knew it and wasn’t buying it. So much for deer reaction to “authentic” scents.

Anyway.. all the best with your new set up. Please let us know how it works out. 8)

                                “Kidney Nectar”… LMAO!!!!

Actually, I think most “Lures” will work early on in the pre-rut. But, quite frankly… the deer ain’t smellin’ Tink’s, and Buck Stop, and Buck Bomb and Hot Doe lure all year long. It does not take a mature buck more than a day or so to know it’s hunting season and he goes nocturnal.

The best scent is no scent.

Nope don’t use the stuff. I do use Scent Shield Ti4 Titanium Cover Scent. What made me buy it, was I was in the archery shop one day and a lady from a local dog kennel came in and bought a case of the stuff. This stuff is anti-microbal and kills all bacteria with the scent elimination. It must work cause I see plenty of deer and have had four different Black Bear walk right by me (me on the ground) and never give me a notice. As far as urine scent go, I made a mock scrape last year, just for giggles using nothing but 100% SteveMcD, and bucks and does hit it throughout the rut. So NO I don’t buy the stuff… morally I’d have a tough time justifying 10 to 50 dollars for a bottle of pee. While 3/4’s of the world goes hungry. Deer and many animals smell like we hear, they have the ability to identify many scents, we may mask some but never all.
