*BUMP*
If you’re in the area this weekend, come on by!
in reply to: What ya got goin? #53342Glad to hear you’re getting rain, Ralph! Sounds like that part of the country could sure use it. Let’s hope it’s a trend.
in reply to: I'm so angry….. #53340I’m imagining someone picking up that magazine and finding a whole new world they knew nothing about. Maybe a spark is lit, and reading through that one issue of TBM is enough to make them go out and try something they may have always been mildy curious about. And thus, another is brought into the fold. Good work, Critch.
Nice quote, Ralph. 😉
in reply to: Spring Bear #52819Nice bear! Congrats!!
That must have had your adrenaline pumping at 6 yards!
And I’ve heard lots of good things about CariBows. I need to play around with one, one of these days.

Whoops, I may have stepped into one of those controversial area’s again.
Thanks for the explanation, Steve. For what it’s worth, I don’t think anything you said was ‘controversial’ at all. I just respect your opinion and the depth of your experience in these matters, and was curious to hear more about this one in particular.

Just curious, why are longer shafts better? I’ve always thought of length as simply being a function of required spine, rather than length in and of itself having advantages, but I don’t think of myself as a tuning expert by any means. I’d love to hear more of your thoughts on this.

Can’t wait to impress the true chef in our family with this one…

For a bit? I plan on being silly long time. Like all things, seriousness is best kept in moderation…
in reply to: Most Embarassing Shot Anyone? #46254Doc Nock wrote: [quote=paleoman]Thanks for the stories up there! Worst part of my story was my longtime hunting bud was in another tree near enough to see the whole thing. That buck was going right toward him. He still gets a good laugh out of that.
In the end, isn’t that what it is all about? Shared memories with old hunting friends? Laughs, tears…???
We forget the bugs, heat, cold, boredom and remember the laughs!
We’ve become all to focused on the “brown and down” to suit me, yet I love venison and none has miraculously showed up in my freezer if I didn’t kill it!
This place brings back the fun and funny times that made me who I am and why I spend time “out there!”
Amen, Doc. As some crusty curmudgeon once said,
“…It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it’s still here. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much; I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound men and women with their hearts in a safe deposit box, and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this; You will outlive the bastards.”

Thanks Mom and TB!

If only I’d had another 700 grains up front, I would have nailed that muley.

I know, right? I should know better than to take foolish shots at such close range.
in reply to: In Case Y'all Don't Know #45757This thread might just take the cake for the “highest amount of hilarious tangents in the least amount of posts” that I can recall.
in reply to: Most Embarassing Shot Anyone? #45755I shot right over a mule deer’s back at 8 yards last season. Had a very narrow window of opportunity as it passed between some branches and I made the classic mistake – didn’t pick a spot, and rushed the shot. Ugh. I play that one over and over in my mind….
in reply to: What ya got goin? #45713Great looking country, Cameron! Sierras?
And it looks like a tasty lunch as well!
